Race 2 is a trappy maiden where several have a chance of winning. Crown of Perfume is our selection as we believe she could have the most scope for improvement. Having just had the one run where she finished second, she should be wiser this time around and could be the one to beat.

THE DANGER – Tzarina’s Crown

Tzarina Crown looks set to be popular in the betting despite a relatively slow start to her career. On the bare form she must take massive strides to win this, but she represents a top yard and will have her followers.

VALUE BET – Wedding Belle

Another popular player will be Wedding Belle. Michael McNab takes the ride and connections will be hoping it's a case of seventh time lucky. She has just had the one placed effort to date which came at Te Repa three starts ago. A repeat of that could see her go close.

In race 8, Convinced could take the beating and is our next best of the day. A winner on debut, she has mixed it up in some competitive company, and this is a far easier assignment than those recent tasks. She resumed after a five-month break with a decent run and a further five-week break shouldn’t hinder her chances too much. Lots to like.

THE DANGER – Oberon

Oberon rates as a danger in this field. Having won two of her fourteen starts, she comes into this race in decent form having come second at Arawa Park a couple of weeks ago. She is well drawn and should play a part.

VALUE BET – Petite Rocher

Petite Rocher is our value play and she is another in great form. Having made just eight starts, she has one win and three placed efforts to her name, with that win coming last time out. She represents top class connections and should run well here.

Passion ‘N’ Pride looks like she is the one to beat in the final race on the card. Representing the Walker and Bergerson yard, she has made five starts and won the first race of her career last time out at Tauranga two weeks ago. This is a similar level contest and she just about sets the standard.

THE DANGER – Ocean Road

In a race of this nature there are several dangers but the one we have picked out is Ocean Road. With four wins in 26 starts, he was able to win three starts ago and drops down to a non-metro grade here. This will require a return to form, but he could be more than capable here.

VALUE BET – Apex

Apex is our value play of the day and despite his big price, we think she could outrun his odds. Having made just nine starts, she is unexposed in comparison to most in this field. The question mark will be over her fitness having had 27 weeks off the track, but she returns to her optimum distance and could give her backers a good run for their money.
