Selections:

Miss Jones - 2.15

Legally Binding – 5.00

Ima Brazen One – 8.50

BEST BET – Miss Jones

Our best bet comes in the fifth race of the day where Miss Jones can cement her class and land a fifth race of her career. Having already won twice at Trentham, she resumes after a 26 week break, but she he has won after a similar break in the past. There are dangers but she sets the standard.

THE DANGER – Legally Binding

Legally Binding is definitely one to watch. Having been operating at a high level, he returned after a five month break with an ok run at Cambridge four weeks ago. That should be behind him now and far better things can be expected in this contest.

VALUE BET – Ima Brazen One

In what is a relatively small field, Ima Brazen One looks the obvious value play. In decent form, she has won two of her last three and has two wins from six visits to the track. She returns after a 15 week lay off but like Miss Jones has won from that length of layoff before so can’t be discounted.

Selections:

Sibling Rivalry – 3.95

Sierra Leone – 7.00

Falcrests Belle – 7.50

BEST BET – Falcrests Belle

In race 4 we are taking a chance that Falcrests Belle could upset the odds and cause a surprise. Well drawn in gate 4, she returned from a two month layoff with a decent showing in a similar contest over course and distance and should be better with that behind her. She has won once and placed in three other races at this trip so should have the early speed to keep pace with the leading fancies.

THE DANGER – Sibling Rivalry

Sibling Rivalry will start as the favourite but there is reason to take her on. She hasn’t won for almost a year and returns to a distance where she wasn’t successful in her only start to date. She represents top class connections so could well win, but there seem to be better value options elsewhere.

VALUE BET – Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone could be the value play of the contest. Unlike others she has been kept up to her racing and comes into this contest off a solid second at Otaki last week. She returns to what looks like an optimum distance having won on her one and only crack over the trip. There is a lot to like and she should go well yet again.

Selections:

Astoria Brooke – 5.50

The Scunner – 12.00

Riverplate – 17.00

BEST BET – Astoria Brooke

Astoria Brooke arrives in great form, having won her last three starts, including a Listed victory over 1600m at Matamata earlier this month. She has a great record over the distance, winning six of her nine attempts and should be suited by the ground. Michael McNab takes the ride and there is plenty to like.

THE DANGER – The Scunner

The Scunner could be a danger, conditions should be perfect for him and he has a decent record here, having won twice and placed on three further occasions. His last run saw him run a solid race in a similar grade, but returning to a track he likes should unlock more.

VALUE BET – Riverplate

River s our long shot play of the day. A winner four times over the past twelve months, he has been in excellent form and comes into this contest having won at Otaki last week. He has been a winner here before and is a veteran over the distance. He knows how to win and can’t be discounted despite his big price.
