The best racing this Saturday in New Zealand comes from Hawera, where the headline contest of the card is the Group 3 Grangewilliam Stud Breeders Stakes.

Having found Group 1 company far too hot, a big drop down in grade into handicap company saw Mary Shan return to winning ways and she will be aiming for a first graded victory here. Look for her to drop in before making a late dart for victory.

THE DANGER – Midnight Scandal

Midnight Scandal is another who takes a drop down in class having found life in Grade 2 company difficult. With two wins from six races at this level, she knows how to win races of this nature and should find herself bang in contention once again.

VALUE BET – Kaimai Queen

If you want to back a horse at a price, then it could be worth taking a second glance at Kaimai Queen. She has one win and two second place efforts in her last three starts and is thriving. This is a tougher assigment but her current form is tough to ignore.

BEST BET – Our Akashinga

Our Akashinga is our next best bet of the day, and she looks to have a great chance of landing the odds in the penultimate race of the day. Still relatively unexposed, she has won two of her four races and is looking to make it a trio of successes. Those wins have come on the synthetic and she has taken five weeks off. However, if she can bring her form onto the turf she could be tough to catch.

THE DANGER – Belles Fate

When Belles Fate was last seen, she was seen winning well over at Trentham. Since that win she has been off the track for over three months. She may well need the run, but this represents a small drop-in class and she may not need to be at her very best to be amongst proceedings.

VALUE BET – Overdraft

Overdraft could well be the best long shot of the day. Still massively unexposed, he is yet to finish outside of the places in any of his six starts. This is a step up in quality, but he can’t be ruled out.

BEST BET – Ready Response

Ready Response is likely to start the final race of the day as the favourite and it’s easy to see why. Having made just two starts, he improved massively from his debut to land his last race and there could be improvement still to come. This is a deeper race, but he could have too much class for this field to overcome.

THE DANGER – Arksey

Arksey was impressive on debut and was well worth his win. Connections clearly believe that he is ready for a race of this nature, and he could be capable of anything. He may find this race far deeper, or he could be the class angle, depending on how the market moves, he has to be considered.

VALUE BET – Giveusawink

Giveusawink is our long-shot of the day and he could well upset the odds here. Having finally broken his maiden tag at the last time of asking, he is clearly in the best form of his life and could back up that victory here.
