The best racing this Saturday in New Zealand comes from Riccarton Park where the headline contest is the Group 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas.

In the lead up to the 1000 Guineas all of the pre-race hype has focused on Well Written. Unbeaten after her first two starts her six-length victory in the Soliloquy Stakes was hugely impressive and firmly announced her as one of the best horses currently in training. With scope for even more improvement, she has to be the one to beat.

THE DANGER – Lollapalooza

Lollapalooza currently leads the way when it comes to the standings for the NZB Filly of the Year. Despite winning the Group 3 Gold Trail Stakes, she was well beaten in the Soliloquy Stakes by Well Written. Whether she has the class to overturn the form of the Soliloquy Stakes remains to be seen.

VALUE BET – Little Black Dress

Little Black Dress looks to be one of the best value picks of the day. Although she trailed Well Written by six lengths, her second in the Soliloquy Stakes can’t be ignored. Whilst a win could prove to be tricky, she certainly has place chance and can’t be ignored.

BEST BET – Captured By Love

Captured By Love has won five of her sixteen starts and during that period has won in both Group 2 and Group 3 company. Whilst she is now without a win in five starts, this will be her third start for her new connections, and she was unlucky not to have got off the mark on her last start. Primed and ready for this, a win looks a real possibility.

THE DANGER – Churchillian

Whilst there are many who will have a chance here, Churchillian could be a huge danger. A winner at this level in the past, she got back in the winner’s circle at Taupo last time out and looks ready to land a second Group 3 contest.

VALUE BET – Girls Light Up

This represents a step up in class for Girls Light Up who will be competing in her first graded contest, but her recent form is impossible to ignore. With three wins in her last four, conditions should be perfect here and although it will take a career best she could produce another bold showing.

Insatiable has been building towards this contest in his last few runs and should arrive fit and ready. Without a win in his last three, there could be options elsewhere, however conditions and the trip should be perfect and an improvement on previous efforts should be expected.

THE DANGER – Illicit Dreams

Illicit Dreams has been tried in higher company than this in the past and his time to get back in the winner’s circle should be close. Following three successive runner up efforts, the soft track should be perfect, and a bold run can be anticipated.

VALUE BET – Beast of Burden

Beast of Burden is our long shot of the day, and he looks to have a great chance of outrunning his odds. A winner of three of his last five which includes a victory at Cambridge last time out, he has been off the tracks for five weeks and could be full of running by the time the race is set to jump.
