The best racing this Saturday in New Zealand comes from Riccarton Park where the headline contest is the Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas.

Swiss Prince is our best bet of the day and he looks to hold a real chance in the 2000 Guineas. A winner of his last two races, he comes into the race having won the James and Annie Sarten Memorial and still seems to be a horse that is improving. This will be his first crack at a Group 1 contest and his recent form is hard to ignore.

THE DANGER – Affirmative Action

Affirmative Action is the wildcard of the contest. Making just his fourth start, this will be his first graded effort but the form of his listed victory two weeks ago is hard to ignore. This is deeper and will require another career effort but he could be something special.

VALUE BET – Tajana

Tajana is taking on the boys and is one of four for trainer Stephen Marsh. A winner at Group 3 level, she didn’t quite fire in the Soliloquy Stakes last time out and needs to bounce back. She is capable and does represent some value.

The New Zealand Cup is one of New Zealand’s most prized trophies and there are many who look to have a real chance of joining the race’s impressive role of honour. Just Charlie has won his last two starts and he arrives in brilliant form. He relishes soft conditions and could be hard to pass.

THE DANGER – I’m A Dirty Rascal

At bigger odds, I’m A Dirty Rascal has to be of some appeal. Represented by top connections, he takes a step up in distance and will be looking to build on his victory at the track three weeks ago, he has to be one for the shortlist.

VALUE BET – Wolfgang

No horse in the field has accumulated as much prize money as Wolfgang. Having won two Group 3 races and competed at the highest level he has shown he can be a classy operator. Whist the wins have dried up of late, he warmed up for this with a win at Te Repa two weeks ago and should arrive fit and ready. He could outrun his odds.

Craig Grylls looks to have a great book of rides and Platinum Attack could well be his best chance. A winner last week at the track, conditions should be similar this time around and he has a great chance of backing that victory up.

THE DANGER – Texas Dolly

Texas Dolly is of interest in this contest. With many out of form, her third place effort a week ago at the track offers some encouragement, she has 1kg less to carry here and should be amongst the placesetters once more.

VALUE BET – Enterprise

When it comes to this level of racing, although Enterprise has had nine starts he is relatively exposed in comparison to this field. He heads into this contest having won two on the bounce and he looks to have a decent chance of making it three on the spin.
