The best racing this Saturday in New Zealand comes from Tauranga where the headline contest is the Group 2 War James and Annie Sarten Memorial.

BEST BET – Lubeck

Lubeck didn’t really give anyone else a chance on her way to routing the field at Arawa Park a couple of weeks ago. Resuming for the first time in five months it’s clear that the break had served her well and their could be plenty more to come here.

THE DANGER – War Princess

War Princess is another last time out winner and she will be aiming to land the fourth race of her career from only six starts. Highly thought of, she has come unstuck in both Group 1 and Listed level, but this is much calmer and a bold bid can be expected.

VALUE BET – Passiflora

Passiflora is arguably one of the most intriguing horses of the entire card. Super dominant on her debut last month at Cambridge, she looked a horse potentially going places and she could be a danger to all in the field.

BEST BET – Quondo

In the feature race of the day, Quondo looks to have a serious chance. Making just his third start, he is clearly highly thought of as he enters the race having finished second in the Hawke’s Bay Guineas. That is some of the best recent form in the race and having proved he belongs at this level he could be hard to stop.

THE DANGER – He Who Dares

He Who Dares is likely to start as the favourite and he also has form that is tough to ignore. Having almost landed a first Group 3 title earlier this season, he ran well to finish fifth in the Sistema Stakes. That form translates well to this field and he could have too much class for the rest.

VALUE BET – Landlock

Landlock looks to be the best value option of the race. Having placed at both Group 1 and Group 2 level in the past, he has shown he can compete with some of the best, but his most recent form does make him hard to back. If it all clicks, his chances can’t be ignored but that very much remains in doubt.

BEST BET – The Prophet

For many, in the Bayleys Tauranga Handicap, The Prophet will be the pick. Versatile from a distance point of view, he steps up to his preferred distance and takes a drop down in class here. Whilst the race is wide open, he should give his running.

THE DANGER – Gigi

Gigi boasts an almost 20% winning strike rate and has a fine record around Tauranga so his chances have to be respected. Without a win in his last three, he has two placed efforts so has form that stacks up well. At a decent price, he could be a great alternative to the favourite.

VALUE BET – Above The Clouds

Above The Clouds has steadlily been upped in distanced and he takes on his longest assignment to date in this contest. Having won at 2000m, the extra 100 metres could unlock more and he could be worth chancing at a big price.
