The best racing this Saturday in New Zealand comes from Tauranga where the best race of the day is the Tauranga Classic.

BEST BET – Tristar

The Tauranga Classic is one of the best races of the entire weekend and we are going to take a chance on Tristar to pull off the shock. Having won her last two races, she arrives in brilliant form and has won around this course before. She is likely to jump off as the third favourite here, but she represents some brilliant value.

THE DANGER – Lux Libertas

Lux Libertas is likely to begin the race as the favourite and with five wins in her sixteen starts it’s easy to see why. It is worth noting that she only has one win in her last ten races and she looks to have a little bit to prove.

VALUE BET – Midnight Scandal

If the recent form of Lux Libertas is a concern, then Midnight Scandal could represent some nice value. Unlike her rival, she has two wins from her last five starts and she seems to be thriving. Conditions should suit and she looks a strong option for the shortlist.

BEST BET – Macallan

Macallan is one of our stongest fancies of Saturday’s card. He arrives at Tauranga with one win which came from his debut and encouragingly for his backers, that came at the track a few weeks ago. Massively unexposed, there could be more to come here, and he is our tentative selection.

THE DANGER – Honey Badger

The obvious danger is Honey Badger, a two-time winner, he has accumulated the most prize money in the field and knows how to win races of this level. A huge threat to all, he will be one of the best backed horses of the day.

VALUE BET – Pleasing

If looking to back one at a price, then Pleasing could be the horse for you. Having won two of her eight starts, she has also placed second on three other occasions. She normally gives her running and if those at the top of the market don’t appeal, she could be one for the shortlist.

BEST BET – Prudentia

The last race of the card is incredibly hard to call, but we are going to side with Prudentia to get the win at a price. She was hugely impressive as she cruised to a victory last time out and with her being so unexposed compared to every other horse in the field, she looks to have a brilliant chance.

THE DANGER – Te Atatu Dream

Te Atatu Dream is used to competing at a higher level than this, and although she hasn’t recorded a win in her last ten starts, hopes are high that a drop down to this grade could be rewarded. She was a narrow runner up on her last start, look for her to finish late and fast.

VALUE BET – Family Folks

When it comes to class, no other horse in the field comes close to Family Folks. Having won well over 1 million in his career, when at his best, no other horse can come close. However, those days look to be behind him. Without a win in eight his chances look slim, but if you back this veteran to find something, he could be worth a small play in a race he can certainly win.
