Saturday Racing Tips - Trentham 03/01/26

The New Year is going to start with a bang and the best racing this Saturday in New Zealand comes from Trentham where the headline race is the Grade 1 Tab Telegraph where over $250,000 will up for grabs for the winner.

In what is a fantastic card, ahead of the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips. As well as our exclusive tips we have highlighted three races which look to be the most competitive of the day. Whether you want to back a short priced favourite, or a horse at longer odds, read on as we have every angle covered.

BEST BET – Tomodachi

Despite there being several high-class rivals in opposition, Tomodachi is our selection to land the Tab Telegraph. Having knocked on the door on her last Grade 1 start when finishing third in the Prosir Plate, she could take another leap forward here and looks to be a real contender.

THE DANGER – Ardalio

Having made just eight starts and winning four of them, Ardalio has to be on the shortlist. Three of those victories have come in Grade 3 company and this will be her first step into the highest level of racing. She is progressive and has to be one to watch.

VALUE BET – Crocetti

The value of the race must be Crocetti. Making his first start in over six months, he is proven at this level and unlike so many of his rivals knows exactly what is needed to succeed. He is the class angle of the contest, however, if he has the fitness to win after such a long layoff remains the question.

La Dorada – 6.00

War Princess – 6.00

BEST BET – La Dorada

La Dorada is our best bet for the Grade 2 Levin Track Supporters Levin Classic. Whilst Romanoff is a real obstacle to overcome, most of La Dorada’s best performance has come on a sound surface. She has won at this level and at the very highest grade and could still have more to come. She could pull off the upset.

THE DANGER – Romanoff

Romanoff could well prove to be a class above the bulk of this field. The winner of the New Zealand 2000 Guineas she is obviously a major contender here, however there are massive concerns over the ground. With the surface meant to be sound, she might find this too quick and for that reason we are against.

VALUE BET – War Princess

War Princess is our value shot, whilst she has class to find on the top two in the market, she won the Grade 3 Lawn Master Eulogy Stakes last time out and could well make this step up. The ground shouldn’t hold any fears, and another big run can be anticipated.

Doctor Askar – 7.50

Bedtime Story – 11.00

BEST BET – Ma Te Wa

Whilst this is a level of racing that Ma Te Wa hasn’t tried, he is easily one of the least exposed horses in this field and could find this step up in class bang to his liking. Conditions should suit and he knows where the finishing line is having won three of his last five starts, his chances have to be respected.

THE DANGER – Doctor Askar

Doctor Askar could be a real threat here. You can draw a line through some of his latest efforts as they have come at a higher grade, He has won in Grade 3 company in the past and could be competitive here now in these calmer waters.

VALUE BET – Bedtime Story

Bedtime Story is another who is returning to calmer waters having spent his last race in Grade 1 company. Whilst he has been outside of the winners circle for a while this could represent a great opportunity.
