The best racing in New Zealand this Saturday comes from Trentham where the action is headlined by two Group 1 races.

Ahead of the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips. BEST BET – Seize The Day

Seize The Day is two for two and announced himself as one of the best two year olds in the country when cruising to victory last time out Matamata. That victory was done on the bridle and we are yet to see the best of him. He looks class personified and could take all of the beating here for his top connections.

THE DANGER – Ronaldo

Ronaldo also comes into this race unbeaten and his chances can’t be discounted. His wins have come in higher company than Seize The Day and although he was shaken up to win last time out at Wanganui, once he hit the front he accelerated nicely away. He looks classy and represents some nice value if Seize The Day shortens in the market.

VALUE BET – Excite

At a big price Excite could be worth siding with. He finished a fair second to Seize The Day last time out but was running on late and could still be learning on the job. If Seize The Day is as special as many believe, that run where he finished behind could be a decent bit of form.

Omega Boy – 6.50

BEST BET – Omega Boy

A chance is taken on Omega Boy to land a second Group 2 prize in succession. The winner of the Japan Cup last time out, he flew home late to seal the deal and there are high hopes that this extended trip could unlock even more. He looks a staying type and could be one to watch out for late.

THE DANGER – Anderson Bridge

Anderson Bridge is another stepping up in distance and despite being likely to jump as the favourite, there are risks attached. He has never competed in this quality of race before and this is his toughest assignment to date. However he loves the track and has three wins from four and looks to be an improver. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he were to win.

VALUE BET – The Odyssey

The value play has to sit with The Odyssey. His sights have been lowered following two Group 1 efforts and although he flopped last time out in Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes, his run before saw him finish third in the Herbie Dykes Stakes. That is a strong piece of form and should see him right in the reckoning here.

BEST BET – Quintessa

Despite a few disappointing runs, Quintessa will be popular in the betting. She has won twice at this grade and is a classy operator. This will be her fourth run for Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson and they will hope it will result in a second victory.

THE DANGER – Afternoon Siesta

Afternoon Siesta has won three of her last four and is certainly the form horse of the contest. She has two wins and seconds from four starts at the track and looks primed to win the biggest prize of her career here.

VALUE BET – Moxie

Moxie is one of the most intriguing runners on the entire card. A surprise winner of the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Classic, he finished ahead of the likes of Chica Mojito and Quintessa who both oppose her here. A follow up might be tough but at over double the price of the favourite, her chances can’t be ignored.
