The best racing this Saturday in New Zealand comes from Trentham where the best race of the day is the Grant Plumbing Wellington Steeplechase.

BEST BET – Afterallthistime

Jesko is likely to jump off as the heavy odds-on favourite, nut with his odds too small to back, we are taking a chance on Afterallthistime to produce the shock. A winner last time out at the course. That win came in heavy conditions and took his tally to four wins in 26 starts. There is more on his plate here but he arrives in good form and could well challenge.

THE DANGER – Jesko

The undoubted challenge will come from Jesko. The class angle of the race, he has won his last two starts and is likely to take all the beating here. He has won around the track and should relish the conditions. If backing short priced favourites is your game, he must be one for the shortlist.

VALUE BET – The Cossack

The Cossack is the most experienced horse in the field and has easily accumulated the most prize money and scored he most impressive wins. Now 11, his time at the top level of the sport seems to be waning. Now without a win in three starts, a leap of faith is required if backing him. However, if he gets it right, he could be a contender here.

BEST BET – Billy Boy

The headline hurdle race of the day comes in the fourth race of the card and Billy Boy is likely to jump off as the warm favourite. A winner at the course three weeks ago, he led from the jump and there was plenty to have liked about that performance. Connections will hope for a similar result here and he looks tough to oppose.

THE DANGER – Nedwin

Nedwin looks the obvious threat to Billy Boy. A high-class operator, he takes a drop down in class here following a poor run at Te Rapa two weeks ago. He does arrive with some questions to answer.

VALUE BET – Yolo

Yolo is our long shot bet of the day. A winner over the course two weeks ago, that was one of the best performances of his career and more could come here. Another one who likes to lead from the front, if others make mistakes, he could well pick up the pieces.

Zeefa Zed – 3.90

BEST BET – Catch and Release

Our next best bet comes in the first race of the day and we are hoping that Catch and Release can get us off to the perfect start.

A winner of two of his 21 starts, he almost recorded a third win of his career before being narrowly denied last time out. With several arriving out of form, he looks to be one of the safest options in the contest.

THE DANGER – Countryman

Countryman could give Catch and Release plenty to think about. Yet to win – he looked in a good position to finally land a first race of his career before becoming unstuck and falling. Prior to his fall he had posted two third place efforts and could run well here once again.

VALUE BET – Zeefa Zed

With so many arriving out of form, the best value play could be with Zeefa Zed. A winner of seven races, he has the most experience by far. He has failed to finish in both of his last two starts, but could have been found a great opportunity here to get back to winning ways.
