Saturday Racing Tips - Wanganui 31/05/25

The best of Saturday’s racing from New Zealand comes from Wanganui where New Zealand’s best jockey Craig Grylls looks to have several promising rides.

Ahead of the action starting we have already run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips. The third race of Wanganui’s card looks incredibly competitive with several horses looking to hold decent chances. Spandeedo is our best best of the day. A winner last time out, he will have conditions to suit once again and he could take some real stopping.

THE DANGER – Country Salon

Country Salon is the other horse in the field who posted a victory when last seen. An impressive winner in his last start, that win came on heavy ground. Although conditions will be soft, it will be interesting to see how he acts on this slightly better ground. If the rain comes, he rates a real danger.

VALUE BET – Platinum Diamond

Platinum Diamond has just had the one start so far in her career and she was able to finish fourth. Horses can often take a big leap following their debut run and if you want to back or at a bit of a price, she looks the most likely candidate to try and spoil the party.

BEST BET – Farravallo

The fifth rave from Wanganui’s card this Saturday looks to be the most competitive with several horses taking a big step down in class. Farravallo is one of those horses. Returning after almost nine months off the track, his last race came in a Group 3 contest. Although well beaten that day, he has three wins at this level and should give his running once more.

THE DANGER – Lazio

Lazio is likely to start the race as the favourite and just like Farravallo he returns to the track for first time in months. Used to operating at a stakes level, he will be ridden by a four pins claimer in this race and will be well handicapped. If he is fit enough he could well be good enough.

VALUE BET – King of Hearts

King of Hearts doesn’t have the best record at Wanganui but he is another who has been mostly operating at a higher level. With two wins in his last three starts, few arrive in better form. Intriguingly priced, he looks to be one of the very best value bets of the day.

The AGC Training Stakes is the most lucrative race on Saturdays card and there looks to be several leading contenders. Our Jumala is likely to jump off as the favourite and it’s easy to see why. Having finished well in much higher company this represents a massive step down in quality. This is her favoured distance and with conditions to suit she has to be one for the shortlist.

THE DANGER – Bradman

There are several that could land a blow in this contest but one horse that deserves huge respect is Bradman. The most experienced horse in this field, he has multiple wins at this level and will be back for more here. His chances can’t be discounted.

VALUE BET – Enrico

Enrico is our long shot of the day. The winner of the Trust Masterton Cup last time out, he is the only horse in the race to head into this one with a victory last time out. Penalised 5lbs for that win, this is a much harder contest, but that shouldn’t put off potential backers. Arguably in the best form of his career, he could run well at a big price.
