Sunday Racing Tips - Matamata 22/03/26

The Matamata card this Sunday is competitive with several interesting maidens and handicap in store.

Ahead of the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips.

BEST BET – Miss Perna

Our best bet comes in the second race of the day, where we are backing Miss Perna to win the first race of her career. In a contest where most of the field are either having their first run, it might pay to side with experience. Miss Perna has been narrowly denied in each of her first two starts, and she represents top class connections. She sets the standard.

THE DANGER – Miss Janet

Of the newcomers, the one that makes the most appeal is Miss Janet. Well bred, she has attracted market support in the lead up to the race and if that continues, she could be worth siding with.

VALUE BET – First Light

First Light is a stablemate of Miss Perna and heads into this race with the benefit of already having a run. Her fourth on debut was promising enough and if she builds on that here, she could be a player at a decent price.

BEST BET – Petit Rocher

In race three we have another competitive maiden, and our pick is Petit Rocher. Her form reads 272 from her first three career starts, but she was touched off by a neck in her last start and was desperately unlucky not to have won - a repeat of that will see her go close.

THE DANGER – Rioja

The obvious danger is Rioja. Set to start as the favourite, she has just had two runs and hasn’t fallen outside of the places on either try. She sets the standards on form and could prove to be too strong for this field.

VALUE BET – Marie Antoinette

Marie Antionette is bred to be better than this but she didn’t show it on debut. Drawn out wide, she never travelled into the race and could only finish in ninth. That experience should have taught her plenty and with a kinder draw this time around a big run can be expected.

BEST BET – Frozen Boy

In the fourth race of the card, many will be drawn to the form of Frozen Boy. Having had three starts, two of those runs have been encouraging but he was poor last time out, finishing almost last. He has had three weeks off and the hope is that the small break will work wonders as he bids to try and land a first victory.

THE DANGER – Scaredoheights

Scaredoheights could be the danger here. Having had experience, she hasn’t really set the world alight but is taking a drop down in class here and has the excellent Craig Grylls aboard. She could leave that form behind here.

VALUE BET – Chaplin

When looking through the card a long shot that looks appealing is Chaplin. This will be his sixth start and although he is yet to win, he ran the best race of his career last time out to finish third at Te Aroha. This race might not take a great deal to win and if he can repeat that effort, there is no reason to suggest that he won’t be able to compete for the places.
