Having placed in all four of his starts to date, connections of Ashoka look to have finally found a race that he looks like he can win. Everything could be in his favour here. Likely to be at the sharp end throughout, a lack of tempo could play into his hands and if afforded a soft time of things out in front, he might not be pegged back.

THE DANGER – Malleable

There are a few newcomers that could well land the spoils, but in terms of dangers it could be worth a second look at Malleable. Having yet to place in any of his five starts, he has a new trainer and takes a small drop down in class. Plenty needs to go right, but he could make an impression in a limited race like this.

VALUE BET – Miss Anna Lee

The value play of the contest could well be with Miss Anna Lee. Having failed to leave a mark in her debut, she left that form miles behind when finishing as the runner up during her last start at the track back in September. She has been off since for eleven weeks but if returning better from the break her chances has to be respected.

BEST BET – Meloni

The Shez Sinsational is arguably the most stacked race on the card and there is plenty to like about Meloni. Hugely unexposed in comparison to most of her rivals, she placed at the track when last seen in May. There are fitness questions she needs to answer but with the potential for further improvement she could well be the answer in a loaded affair.

THE DANGER – Greenwich

Greenwich is one of the more experienced runners in the field and is taking a class drop here. Drawn to take up the running, the race could unfold exactly to his liking and expect to see him battling it out for the lead. Without a win for almost 18 months, this could finally be the time that he flips the script.

VALUE BET – Lough Eske

Lough Eske is another taking a step down in class and he has an interesting profile. Making his debut for a new yard, this will be just his fourth start of his career. If the penny drops he could be the best value pick of the day.

It’s been well over a year since High Country tasted success but having made his return from a four month break last week, there are feelings that he could produce a good display here. Having placed in this sort of company previously, he goes up in distance and that should suit. A win can’t be guaranteed but a big run could be expected.

THE DANGER – Vadanova

Vadanova doesn’t have the same fitness concerns that others in this field have and she heads into this contest having finished second last time out at Te Aroha. The draw could be her biggest hurdle to overcome. She likes to run at the front of the pack and whether she will be able to claim the lead from her wide position remains to be seen.

VALUE BET – Crafty Colin

Our long shot of the day goes to Crafty Colin. Having finally broken his maiden on his 33rd race, he backed that up reasonably well when finishjng third at the course last week. A poor start cost him any chance of winning, if breaking better he should find this step up in distance to his liking.
