VALUE BET – Porthouse Lady

The value play comes from Porthouse Lady. Vastly experienced she has placed twice within a higher grade and a return to a softer track should play to her strengths. If neither of the top two inspire confidence, she could be the play.

After six starts Possess was finally able to break his Maiden when winning at Greymouth last weekend. That win was done in convincing fashion and there is hope that it shouldn’t have taken too much out of him. This race looks perfect for him to follow up.

THE DANGER – Speed Dial

Although Speed Dial has just had the one win in 21 starts, she came as close as ever when finishing second at Greymouth a few days ago. That form is as good as any in field and she could well go onto follow up that promising performance with another big run here.

VALUE BET – Grand Cru

Grand Cru is our value pick of the contest. Another who was at Greymouth on Saturday, she produced her best performance to date when finishing as the narrow runner

In the first race of the day Little Thief is bound to be a popular selection. Having had eleven starts he is yet to post a victory but paired with Tina Comignaghi and representing Kevin Myers, he steps up in trip and will be a danger to all in the field.

THE DANGER – Blueridge

Blueridge is slightly less exposed than Little Thief but rather than stepping up in trip, he steps down in trip with the hope that his extra stamina could prove decisive. Watch out for any late marketing moves as he could be the one to be on.

Our long shot of the day is The Boss Girls. She has had twelve starts and has placed twice. Whilst that doesn’t scream of confidence, her chances can’t be ignored as most of her racing has been done in a higher level. She returns to calmer waters here and could massively outrun her odds.
