THE DANGER – Canterbury Flight

The likely danger has to be Canterbury Flight. Highly tried, this five-year-old mare didn’t show a tonne of promise in her first five starts, but that left form well behind with a second place effort on her last appearance at the track a few weeks ago. The penny might have finally dropped and she could go close here.

VALUE BET – Aishiteru

The value could lie with Aishiteru. Massively unexposed in relation to most in this field, a debut fourth was a pleasing enough start. Better things could be expected with that first run now under her belt.

In the eighth race of the day a chance is taken with Henry Thomas to upset the odds. A winner of his last two, he arrives at Riccarton seeking the hattrick. A winner at the track two weeks ago, conditions should be in his favour. He is up against a higher caliber of horse here, but his chances and recent form can’t be ignored.

THE DANGER – Akenehi

With two wins from three at Riccarton, Akenehi holds every chance of adding to that haul. Having won at a higher level on multiple occasions this season, the level of opposition she encounters here certainly won’t hold any fears and expect her to be in a prominent position throughout.

VALUE BET – Go Lotte

Although the favourites for the encounter look solid at the top of the market, Go Lotte could represent some value at a bigger price down the field. Although her track record isn’t the strongest, she produced her best run for an age with a decent third place effort at Ascot Park last week and with that run behind her she could outrun her odds once again here.

BEST BET – Professional Lad

In the final race of the day Professional Lad will hope to send punters home happy. Having taken six attempts to finally get off the mark, he shed his maiden tag with a win at the track last week. Having stayed on well for pressure that day, there is a hope that a step up in trip could unlock even more.

THE DANGER – Life Of Reilly

Life Of Reilly travels back to Riccarton in the hope of breaking a losing sequence that now stands at four races. Having resumed from a three-month break when racing at Riccarton last week, he faded into third in the dying stages of the race, but with that run now into him and facing a small step back up in trip he looks a major threat.

VALUE BET – Villasanti

Our long shot of the day is Villasanti. Hugely consistent, he has won just one of his ten starts but remarkably has placed on every other occasion. That win did come at his last start at the track, and we have seen in the past that one win can quickly be followed up by another. This is tougher but his current odds can’t be ignored.
