The headline race of the card is the Tab Mile and it looks wide open. Sir Albert brings in some of the best recent form. A winner of each of his last two starts, with the last of those wins coming at the track two weeks ago, his chances have to be respected.

THE DANGER – Cannon Hill

Like Sir Albert, Cannon Hill was a last time out winner, with his win coming at Ellerslie. Whilst winning this will require a lifetime best performance, his strong finishing style could well see him swoop late.

VALUE BET – Archaic Smile

It’s a small concern that Archaic Smile was last on the track just four days ago and she has now gone five runs without victory. However, out of all of the horses in this lineup she is the only one that has placed in both Group 1 and 2 company. Whilst she has been nowhere near that form of late, if it all clicks she could be a real danger to all.

BEST BET – Zaharias

Zaharias has just made the one start where she finished second out of three at Ellerslie a fortnight ago. Trained by Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson, Craig Grylls also takes the ride so the connections couldn’t be stronger. Trained to be good, this is a race this two-year-old should be aiming to win.

THE DANGER – Miss Twinkle

The betting will be tight between Zaharias and Miss Twinkle, with Miss Twinkle also finishing second on her debut. It could be argued that her debut race was deeper than the race that Zaharias entered and there was plenty of encouragement on show. She will be a massive danger for favourite backers and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see her poke her head in front here.

VALUE BET – Final Time

Of the newcomers in the race the one horse that should be considered is Final Time. One of two for J & K Parsons, the booking of Tina Comignaghi certainly catches the eye. If you want some value, she looks to be the play.

BEST BET - Take On 
Take On made his reappearance at Riccarton following a few months off the track a few weeks ago, and he seems to be working back to full fitness nicely. With a third and fourth place efforts, this race could be for the taking as long as following up after four days hasn’t taken too much of a toll.

THE DANGER - Enterprise Gem
Enterprise Gem doesn’t have the best record at Riccarton, but he is a classy performer on his day. Having placed at a higher level than this in the past, if things click, a big run can be expected.

VALUE BET Avoriaz
Last time out, winners are in short supply here, but one horse who has had the recent taste of winning is Avoriaz. Whilst that win came at long odds and there can’t be a guarantee of him backing that up, in a wide open contest,he could be worth siding with.
