NRL Round 11 Preview

News Highlights

  • Warriors star, Luke Metcalf, is seeking a release from his contract a year on from signing an extension.
  • Four key stars for the Tigers remain on the sidelines (Apisai Koroisau, Jahream Bula, Adam Doueihi, and Samuela Fainu).
  • The injury stick has also hit teams like the Cowboys and Eels pretty badly.

We’re ready for all the bright lights of Magic Round up in Queensland! Round 11 has arrived, and all eight games will be played at Suncorp Stadium over three action-packed days. The Storm have finally broken their losing streak, and we see a top vs bottom of the table clash! It’s all happening right now, and the BettingTop10 team has you covered.

The Panthers Take Yet Another Scalp

The Penrith Panthers remain in outright first place on the ladder with 18 points, and obviously still the favourites in NRL betting odds to take out the Premiership. They got the better of the Canberra Raiders last time out, taking their winning streak to four in a row.

Now, they take on the bottom-of-the-table St. George Illawarra Dragons. What could be better for the Panthers to notch up another two points than to take on the only team left in the comp that is yet to get their first win?

Another team that’s looking red hot right now are the Sydney Roosters. They’ve won six games in a row, and we see both Lindsay Collins and Tommy Talau return in Round 11. With a clash against the North Queensland Cowboys, the Roosters will surely be looking to make it seven in a row.

Who can forget about the New Zealand Warriors as well? They had their bye last round, and are sitting pretty in second spot. They look like a real contender this season, but their recent wins have come against teams in the bottom half of the ladder.

They get some welcome returns this round with captain Mitchell Barnett coming back from a concussion, and Tanner Stowers-Smith is available as well. But we don’t have a timeline for Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad or Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, which is concerning.

Now, we’ve seen a little off-field drama with the Warriors as well! Luke Metcalf has requested a release from his contract a year after signing. The Warriors have released a statement on Metcalf, who is now free to explore his options for the 2027 season.

The Pack: The Tigers are Slipping, and Fast

There are plenty of injuries across the board; no team is immune. However, a thought needs to be given to the Wests Tigers. They’ve been on struggle street for years now, and the beginning of the season showed so much promise.

They were sitting near the top of the ladder and peeled off four wins in their first five games. Then the injuries (and suspensions) started to pile up. Right now, they’ve lost four of their most impactful players, including Apisai Koroisau, Jahream Bula, Adam Doueihi, and Samuela Fainu.

They’ve lost their last two games, and by big margins as well. Dropping down to sixth spot on the ladder, they now take on the Manly Sea Eagles, who have seen their stocks continue to rise under new coach Kieran Foran, and they’ve won four of their last five games.

The likes of Jamal Fogarty and Kobe Hetherington are available this round for the Sea Eagles as well. Plus, Tom Trbojevic isn’t too far away either, probably around Round 13. A win this round and a couple of other results going their way, they could move into the top four!

Wooden Spoon Watch: How Long Can The Dragons’ Losing Streak Continue For?

Ah, the winless Dragons, what are we going to do with you? It seems like changing the coach hasn’t had the same impact as it did for the Sea Eagles. The Dragons remain the only team that hasn’t won a game yet, but they do have two Premiership points, thanks to their bye.

It’s not just that they’re losing, it’s the way they’ve been losing as well. Big blowouts and not being able to put many points on their opposition. They do have a host of players coming back from injury this round, and the following round, they’re going to need it.

The Dragons are taking on the top-of-the-table Panthers, and this could be a bloodbath. The Panthers aren’t the type of team to underestimate others and let their foot off the gas. Can the Dragons rise to the occasion and cause the biggest shock of the season so far?
