Manly Sea Eagles vs South Sydney Rabbitohs
Thursday night action sees the Sea Eagles host the Rabbitohs. Manly suffered their first loss after a hat-trick of wins, going down to the Sharks on the road in their last game. The Rabbitohs had a bye last round, but will be looking to get back into the winner’s circle after back-to-back losses. These two teams haven’t played each other yet this season, but in the one game they played against each other last season, it was the Sea Eagles that won.
For the Sea Eagles, Haumole Olakau'atu is set to make his return, while Tolu Koula is still in concussion protocols; however, Manly is seeking an exemption to allow him to play. Switching over to the Rabbitohs now, and it’s been confirmed that we won’t see Latrell Mitchell back until Round 17. Cameron Murray returns from Origin duties, and Campbell Graham is back from his calf injury.
| Bookmaker | Katherine’s Tip | Odds |
| Sea Eagles to win | NZ$1.61 | |
| Sea Eagles to win | NZ$1.57 | |
| Sea Eagles to win | NZ$1.61 |
Predicted Squads
Manly Sea Eagles - Clayton Faulalo, Jason Saab, Josh Feledy, Reuben Garrick, Lehi Hopoate, Luke Brooks, Jamal Fogarty, Taniela Paseka, Jake Simpkin, Kobe Hetherington, Haumole Olakau'atu, Ben Trbojevic, Jake Trbojevic, Brandon Wakeham, Nathan Brown, Ethan Bullemor, Blake Wilson, Simione Laiafi & Joey Walsh
South Sydney Rabbitohs - Matt Dufty, Alex Johnston, Latrell Siegwalt, Campbell Graham, Edward Kosi, Cody Walker, Ashton Ward, Tevita Tatola, Peter Mamouzelos, Sean Keppie, Euan Aitken, Tallis Duncan, Cameron Murray, Jye Gray, Lachlan Hubner, Keaon Koloamatangi, Liam Le Blanc, Bronson Garlick & Bayleigh Bentley-Hape
Melbourne Storm vs Newcastle Knights
Kicking off the first of two Friday night games, we have the Storm up against the Knights. After a disastrous run, the Storm are building nicely, and have won three of their last four, including an 18-4 win over the Roosters at AAMI Park. They stay in AAMI Park for this one against the Knights, who have won their last four games in a row. The Knights have been back to their winning ways ever since their key stars returned from injury.
The Storm are sitting down in 13th, meanwhile, the Knights are enjoying a spot in the top four. While Nick Meaney is in doubt for this match, things continue to look better for the Storm, though, as we could see Xavier Coates for the first time this season, and Shawn Blore should also be available. For the Knights, Sandon Smith picked up a calf injury last time out, so look out for official team lists to see if he is named.
Predicted Squads
Melbourne Storm - Sua Fa’alogo, Will Warbrick, Jack Howarth, Moses Leo, Xavier Coates, Cameron Munster, Jahrome Hughes, Stefano Utoikamanu, Harry Grant, Josh King, Shawn Blore, Ativalu Lisati, Trent Loiero, Trent Toelau, Alec MacDonald, Cooper Clark, Stanley Huen, Joe Chan & Manaia Waitere
Newcastle Knights - Kalyn Ponga, Dominic Young, Dane Gagai, Fletcher Sharpe, Greg Marzhew, Sandon Smith, Dylan Brown, Jacob Saifiti, Phoenix Crossland, Trey Mooney, Dylan Lucas, Jermaine McEwen, Mat Croker, Fletcher Hunt, Tyson Frizell, Pasami Saulo, Cody Hopwood, Harrison Graham & Francis Manuleleua
Canberra Raiders vs Sydney Roosters
The Raiders are at home once again when they welcome the Roosters to GIO Stadium. The Roosters may be sitting in third spot on the ladder, but they have lost their last two games in a row, to the Storm and Cowboys. They were particularly bad against the Storm last time out, and the Raiders might be able to pile on the pain as the slight underdogs at the moment.
We might see Sebastian Kris sitting this one out for the Raiders after suffering a head knock in his last game. In better news, we could see Josh Papalii for the first time since Round 7, and Jayden Brailey could also be available. Don’t expect a lot of changes for the Roosters, but they’ll have to improve on their disappointing effort from last round. Interestingly, the Raiders have won the two most recent meetings between these two clubs.
Predicted Squads
Canberra Raiders - Kaeo Weekes, Savelio Tamale, Daine Laurie, Matthew Timoko, Xavier Savage, Ethan Strange, Ethan Sanders, Corey Horsburgh, Owen Pattie, Joe Tapine, Hudson Young, Zac Hosking, Jayden Brailey, Tom Starling, Ata Mariota, Morgan Smithies, Jed Stuart, Chevy Stewart & Josh Papalii
Sydney Roosters - James Tedesco, Billy Smith, Hugo Savala, Robert Toia, Cody Ramsey, Daly Cherry-Evans, Sam Walker, Naufahu Whyte, Reece Robson, Lindsay Collins, Angus Crichton, Siua Wong, Victor Radley, Egan Butcher, Spencer Leniu, Nat Butcher, Salesi Foketi, Connor Watson & Fetalaiga Pauga
Key NRL Betting Influencers - Round 14
A lot is happening this round, but here are the key factors that will most likely impact your bets:
- The Storm have found their footing again, and playing at AAMI Park, I think they’ll be too much for the Knights, even though they’re sitting in the top four.
- We see the Raiders play their second game in a row at home, and after beating the Cowboys, they’ll have heaps of confidence. The Roosters, meanwhile, have lost their last two games in a row.
- The Broncos lost to the Dragons last time out, and they’ll be desperate not to lose to the Titans, who sit second last on the ladder. I expect they’ll rise to the occasion in a close game.

North Queensland Cowboys vs Dolphins
We have an all-Queensland affair to kick off Saturday, which is actually the first of two all-Queensland clashes! The Cowboys are playing at home when they welcome the Dolphins to Townsville. The Cowboys had their winning streak ended at two games by the Raiders last time out, going down 12-26. Meanwhile, the Dolphins are flexing their muscles a little bit and are currently riding a four-game winning streak.
The Cowboys will be happy to have Reuben Cotter back after he was rested last round from Origin. They’ll be without Tom Mikaele for several weeks after he injured his knee last time out. The Dolphins were another team that had a bye last round, so they welcome back all their Origin stars. The Dolphins got the better of their Cowboys on both occasions last season, with both wins being quite convincing as well.
Predicted Squads
North Queensland Cowboys - Scott Drinkwater, Zac Laybutt, Jaxon Purdue, Tom Chester, Murray Tualagi, Liam Sutton, Jake Clifford, Matthew Lodge, Reed Mahoney, Jason Taumalolo, Heilum Luki, Sam McIntyre, Rueben Cotter, Viliami Vailea, Griffin Neame, Coen Hess, Xavier Kerrisk, Ethan King & Braidon Burns
Dolphins - Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Jamayne Isaako, Jack Bostock, Selwyn Cobbo, Tevita Naufahu, Brad Schneider, Isaiya Katoa, Tom Flegler, Jeremy Marshall-King, Francis Molo, Connelly Lemuelu, Kulikefu Finefeuiaki, Max Plath, Kurt Donoghoe, Ray Stone, Tom Gilbert, Oryn Keeley, Felise Kaufusi & Morgan Knowles
Brisbane Broncos vs Gold Coast Titans
It’s big brother versus little brother when we see the Broncos welcome the Titans to Suncorp Stadium. Both teams are sitting outside the top eight and will obviously be desperate for a win tonight. The Broncos currently hold the unwanted title of the only team to lose to the Dragons so far this season, after going down 26-30 in their last game. The Titans had their feet up last round, as they were one of three teams to have the bye.
To make matters worse for the Broncos, both Pat Carrigan and Gehamat Shibasaki picked up injuries last time out and are set to miss multiple weeks. For the Titans, we’ll see Tino Fa'asuamaleaui and Jojo Fifita both return from Origin duties. These two teams have already played this season, with the Broncos getting a 26-12 win. I think the Broncos are good enough to win this one, but it’ll be close.
Predicted Squads
Brisbane Broncos - Reece Walsh, Josiah Karapani, Kotoni Staggs, Jesse Arthars, Grant Anderson, Ezra Mam, Adam Reynolds, Payne Haas, Cory Paix, Preston Riki, Xavier Willison, Brendan Piakura, Jack Gosiewski, Ben Hunt, Ben Talty, Va'a Semu, Aublix Tawha, Antonio Verhoeven & Tom Duffy
Gold Coast Titans - Keano Kini, Jojo Fifita, Jaylan De Groot, AJ Brimson, Phillip Sami, Jayden Campbell, Zane Harrison, Moeaki Fotuaika, Oliver Pascoe, Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, Arama Hau, Beau Fermor, Chris Randall, Kurtis Morrin, Josh Patston, Luke Sommerton, Klese Haas, Lachlan Ilias & Cooper Bai
Wests Tigers vs Penrith Panthers
With the return of a few key players for the Tigers, they managed to get back to their winning ways last time out. Now, they face a stiff opponent in the top-of-the-table Panthers. The Panthers are in fine form after beating their closest rivals at the moment, the Warriors, last time out in what was a great game. They got that win without their Origin stars as well, so it all points to a Panthers win today.
Just as some players return for the Tigers, they lose a few! Alex Twal and Heamasi Makasini both left the field with injuries from their game with the Bulldogs, and are in serious doubt for this clash. Plus, Sione Fainu failed his HIA and will miss this game. After resting some of their Origin stars in their last game, they all make a return for this one for the Panthers, and they are now almost back to full strength.
Predicted Squads
Wests Tigers - Jahream Bula, Jeral Skelton, Sunia Turuva, Starford To'a, Faaletino Tavana, Jarome Luai, Jock Madden, Terrell May, Api Koroisau, Fonua Pole, Tony Sukkar, Kai Pearce-Paul, Alex Seyfarth, Latu Fainu, Mavrik Geyer, Royce Hunt, Ethan Roberts, Charlie Murray & Bunty Afoa
Penrith Panthers - Dylan Edwards, Thomas Jenkins, Paul Alamoti, Casey McLean, Brian To'o, Blaize Talagi, Nathan Cleary, Moses Leota, Freddy Lussick, Lindsay Smith, Isaiah Papali'i, Liam Martin, Isaah Yeo, Jack Cogger, Scott Sorensen, Liam Henry, Izack Tago, Luke Garner & Billy Scott
Cronulla Sharks vs St. George Illawarra Dragons
The final Sunday game sees the Sharks up against the Dragons. The Sharks are at home once again, and that seemed to help last round when they took on the Sea Eagles at Ocean Protect Stadium and won, 28-22. The Dragons’ losing streak has been well documented, but they put all that to bed with a win over the Broncos, 30-26. Can they back that up with another win on the road?
The Sharks will be without their captain Blayke Brailey, who suffered a broken arm in the game against the Sea Eagles. However, we could see both Briton Nikora and KL Iro return. All eyes will be on Clint Gutherson for the Dragons after he left the field in the game against the Broncos with a calf injury. They’re currently waiting for scans to assess his ability to play.
Predicted Squads
Cronulla Sharks - Will Kennedy, Sam Stonestreet, Jesse Ramien, KL Iro, Ronaldo Mulitalo, Braydon Trindall, Niwhai Puru, Addin Fonua-Blake, Hohepa Puru, Toby Rudolf, Briton Nikora, Teig Wilton, Cam McInnes, Siosifa Talakai, Billy Burns, Thomas Hazelton, Jesse Colquhoun, Mawene Hiroti & Jayden Berrell
St. George Illawarra Dragons - Clint Gutherson, Setu Tu, Moses Suli, Valentine Holmes, Mathew Feagai, Daniel Atkinson, Kyle Flanagan, Loko Jnr Pasifiki Tonga, Damien Cook, Toby Couchman, Dylan Egan, Hamish Stewart, Ryan Couchman, Jacob Liddle, Tyrell Sloan, Josh Kerr, Blake Lawrie, Emre Guler & Lyhkan King-Togia
Canterbury Bulldogs vs Parramatta Eels
Two teams that haven’t exactly been a model of consistency so far this season face off against each other in the final game of the round. We always love a little bit of Monday afternoon footy, and this game shapes up as a key one with the Bulldogs sitting down in 14th, and the Eels just one spot below them in 15th. Both teams have won just one of their last five games as well. They only just played each other in Round 7 this season, with the Eels winning 38-20.
It’s been reported that Stephen Crichton may have suffered a setback with his shoulder, so watch this space as he is in some doubt of being named in official team lists for the Bulldogs. In some good news, Marcelo Montoya and Connor Tracey are now available for selection after overcoming injuries. For the Eels, it looks like Mitchell Moses could be back in the fold after recovering from a hamstring strain.
Predicted Squads
Canterbury Bulldogs - Jacob Kiraz, Enari Tuala, Bronson Xerri, Stephen Crichton, Marcelo Montoya, Matt Burton, Lachlan Galvin, Max King, Kurt Mann, Leo Thompson, Sitili Tupouniua, Harry Hayes, Jaeman Salmon, Bailey Hayward, Sam Hughes, Jack Underhill, Alekolasimi Jones, Josh Curran & Enari Tuala
Parramatta Eels - Isaiah Iongi, Brian Kelly, Jordan Samrani, Sean Russell, Josh Addo-Carr, Joash Papali'i, Mitchell Moses, Luca Moretti, Tallyn Da Silva, Junior Paulo, Kelma Tuilagi, Jack Williams, Jack De Bellin, Dylan Walker, Sam Tuivaiti, Toni Mataele, Charlie Guymer, Apa Twidle & Ronald Volkman
