New Zealand

New Zealand have been struggling as of late, losing the last two games of the ODI series in fairly convincing fashion. Will a new format bring a different result? The T20 format seems to be where the Black Caps shine, and they did recently reach the 2026 T20I World Cup final.

The Black Caps get another chance at Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium after the final ODI game, which was also played here. I expect the line-up for New Zealand to again be quite inexperienced. The likes of Tom Latham will really have to lead from the front.

They recently lost a T20I series to South Africa, and that was played at home. So, they aren’t exactly in red-hot form in this format, and playing on the road is always difficult. While they might be inexperienced, it gives a chance for new players to make their mark.

Bangladesh

While this is a different format, Bangladesh will have all the confidence coming into this one. They won the last two games in the ODI series convincingly, including chasing down the target set by New Zealand in Game 2 in the 35th over. In Game 3, they won by 55 runs.

Expect both Mohammad Saifuddin and Parvez Hossain Emon back in the squad, and these two could be the game changers for Bangladesh. Players who have enough experience on this deck should excel in both the batting and bowling departments.

Bangladesh aren’t necessarily known for their T20 ability. However, there looks like an opening to take advantage of a weaker New Zealand side, which doesn’t feature many of the same players that took the Black Caps to the T20 World Cup Final earlier this year.

In T20Is, New Zealand have a hold over Bangladesh, winning three of their last five matches (with one no result in the mix), which follows the pattern of W-NR-L-W-W for the Black Caps. New Zealand’s last T20I series was against South Africa (but played in New Zealand), and they lost their last two games. Bangladesh at home when playing Ireland in their last T20I series, and they won their last two games.

While New Zealand seem to be the stronger recent T20 side, this is an inexperienced team, and the tour of Bangladesh hasn’t been going too well so far. I think the form from the ODI series will spill across to this format, and I can understand why Bangladesh are the favourites.
