Then, when it was Bangladesh’s turn to bat, they were slow to get off the mark. Things changed when Towhid Hridoy stepped up to the crease, though. He blasted an unbeaten 51 off 27 balls, and Shamim Hossain was also unbeaten on 31 off 13 balls.

It was great to see every batter contribute (Saif Hassan was the lowest run scorer with 17 runs), and the bowlers didn’t panic when the Black Caps got their innings off to a flyer. They will have all the confidence coming into Game 2 at the same ground where the first game was played.

New Zealand could cause an upset, but they need some of their more experienced players, like Tom Latham, back. If they can quickly adjust, they will be more competitive. I just worry that when it comes down to crunch time, they’ll crack under the pressure.
