Chelsea vs Man City Prediction: FA Cup Betting Tips & Odds

Chelsea vs Man City Prediction
Chelsea and Manchester City meet at Wembley on Sunday morning New Zealand time in the 2026 FA Cup final, with kickoff at 2am NZST.
City are chasing a domestic cup double after winning the Carabao Cup earlier this season. They’re appearing in a fourth consecutive FA Cup final - the first English club to do so - but have lost the last two. This makes Chelsea the firm underdogs, who haven’t won a domestic trophy since 2018.
In this Chelsea vs Man City preview, I’m looking at form and fitness doubts ahead of a final City should win. I’ve also got a same-game angle worth a look if you’re on the best sports betting apps in NZ ahead of kickoff.
Chelsea vs Man City Analysis
Chelsea
Real talk: I don’t think Chelsea deserve to be here based on their league form. We’re talking 13 wins from 36 Premier League games, ninth in the table. But, cup football has its own logic, right?
Pedro Neto has been the standout for Chelsea, with six goal involvements in five cup games, including a hat-trick at Hull and the assist for Enzo Fernandez’s semi-final winner against Leeds. If Neto’s fit after missing the Liverpool draw, Chelsea immediately look more dangerous. Then there’s Joao Pedro, who has 20 goals across all competitions.
Their 3-0 home loss to City in April is hard to overlook though. Chelsea created almost nothing. McFarlane wasn’t in charge for that game, though, and the return of Levi Colwill from a long-term knee injury is a plus.
Team News: Neto and Garnacho expected to return from knocks. Sanchez should be available after a head injury. Estevao, Derry and Gittens all out. Mudryk still banned.
Predicted Lineup: Sanchez; Gusto, Chalobah, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Neto, Palmer, Garnacho; Joao Pedro.
Manchester City
Four wins from five. Eleven goals scored. City have been excellent since beating Arsenal 2-1 last month, and their 3-0 win over Brentford was about as comfortable as it gets.
Jeremy Doku is the form player in English football. He’s scored five goals in his last six games across all competitions, including the opener against Brentford last weekend. Erling Haaland has 26 Premier League goals this season and passed 150 for City in all competitions. His hat-trick in the 4-0 quarter-final demolition of Liverpool felt like a statement.
Rodri is the question mark. He’s missed City’s last four games with a groin injury and only returned to partial training last week. Guardiola refused to risk him even for the semi-final. If he’s not fit, Nico Gonzalez deputises.
Team News: Rodri a major doubt with a groin injury. Khusanov expected back from a minor knock. Gvardiol out long-term. Dias also a doubt.
Predicted Lineup: Donnarumma; Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi, Ait-Nouri; Nico Gonzalez, Reijnders; Doku, Foden, Marmoush; Haaland.
Chelsea vs Man City Stats and Trends
- Chelsea haven’t beaten City in 13 meetings since the 2021 Champions League final.
- City won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in April, scoring three second-half goals.
- Chelsea failed to score in three of their six straight Premier League defeats.
- City have scored in each of their last 12 competitive games.
- Doku has scored five goals in his last six games across all competitions.
Chelsea vs Man City Prediction
I can’t go against City here. I’ve tried to find a way into Chelsea and I can’t do it convincingly. Their league form is dreadful and their attacking options have been decimated by injury. Plus, City beat them 3-0 a month ago without breaking a sweat.
What gives me slight pause is the occasion. Cup finals are a big deal. Chelsea scraped past Wrexham and Leeds in games they were wobbling, and McFarlane has at least steadied the ship.
But Haaland against this defence, with Doku running at Gusto from the opposite flank - I don’t see how Chelsea contain that for 90 minutes.
I’m tipping City to win, probably by two. If you’re looking to bet on football in New Zealand, the match result is where I’d start.
Chelsea vs Man City - The Ultimate Bet
Man City to Win and Over 1.5 Goals @ $1.90
City have scored two or more in seven of their last eight competitive games. Haaland and Doku are in devastating form, and Chelsea’s defence has been porous.
I don’t think this will be a cagey final. City are desperate to win a trophy they’ve lost twice running, and Chelsea can’t drop deep against this attack without getting carved open eventually.
At $1.90, you can find competitive betting promotions across most New Zealand bookmakers for a final like this.
