Chelsea vs Spurs Prediction: EPL Betting Tips & Odds

Chelsea and Tottenham meet at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday morning New Zealand time in a London derby that means far more to the visitors than the hosts.

Spurs are two points above the relegation zone with two games left, and West Ham’s 3-1 loss to Newcastle on Sunday means a point here confirms their Premier League survival. 

In this Chelsea vs Tottenham preview, I look at form and injuries on both sides, and why this match has a very specific profile for goals markets. I’ve got a draw angle at $3.75 for those scanning football tips ahead of the midweek action.

Chelsea

Seven Premier League games without a win, dating back to 4 March. One goal scored across six of those before the 1-1 draw at Anfield. McFarlane did his best in the FA Cup final on Saturday, and Chelsea defended well enough for 72 minutes before Antoine Semenyo produced that ridiculous backheel to win it for City.

Xabi Alonso has already been confirmed as next season’s manager. I wonder how much that announcement affects the dressing room for these final two fixtures - players audition for the new boss, or they mentally check out. Four consecutive home league defeats don’t inspire confidence either way.

Joao Pedro took a knock in the cup final and was withdrawn in the 86th minute. If he’s not right, Chelsea lose their one reliable attacking threat. He’s got 15 league goals this season.

Team News: Estevao and Gittens are out for the season. Derry is recovering from a head injury. Mudryk is suspended. Joao Pedro is a doubt after his FA Cup final knock.

Predicted Lineup: Sanchez; Gusto, Fofana, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, James; Palmer, Fernandez, Neto; Joao Pedro.

Tottenham

Four unbeaten, two wins in that run, and now they’ve got the simplest equation in football: don’t lose and you’re safe. West Ham’s defeat to Newcastle has done them a huge favour.

I really don’t know what to expect from this Spurs side. Their away form has been oddly decent - only Arsenal and Man City have won more on the road this season. Wins at Wolves and at Villa Park in consecutive away trips were exactly what a team fighting for survival needed.

Richarlison has 10 league goals and has been their most consistent attacker. James Maddison came off the bench in the 85th minute against Leeds for his first appearance of the campaign after that ACL injury - symbolic, even if he’s nowhere near a start.

Team News: Simons, Kulusevski, Romero, Kudus and Odobert are all out for the season. Davies, Vicario and Solanke are doubts. Maddison is available off the bench.

Predicted Lineup: Kinsky; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Udogie; Palhinha, Bentancur; Kolo Muani, Gallagher, Tel; Richarlison.

• Chelsea haven’t won a Premier League game since 4 March, a run of seven without victory.
• Spurs haven’t won at Stamford Bridge in the top flight since 2018.
• Chelsea have won eight of the last 10 league meetings between the sides.
• Tottenham are unbeaten in four Premier League matches.
• Under 2.5 goals has come in during three of Chelsea’s last four league games.
• BTTS occurred in just three of the last 10 head-to-head fixtures.

I’m going against my instincts and tipping the draw here. 

Chelsea’s dominance in this fixture is well documented - eight of the last 10 - but I can’t ignore form. Seven winless, one goal in six of those, four straight defeats at home. The confidence has gone at Stamford Bridge, and I don’t see Alonso’s appointment suddenly fixing the mood.

Spurs won’t risk everything chasing a win when a draw sends them safe. I expect De Zerbi to set up conservatively, with Palhinha and Bentancur dropping deep and Richarlison playing on the counter. Against a Chelsea side that can’t score, that might be enough.

Chelsea have no motivation left beyond personal pride. Spurs need a point, not three.

Tottenham won’t come to Stamford Bridge trying to open Chelsea up when a draw is all they need to survive. Chelsea haven’t shown the quality or confidence to break down organised defences in months. A stalemate suits both sides, even if neither would admit it publicly.

At $3.75, I’m happy to back a result that recent history says is unlikely but current form says is overdue.
