Football Multi Bet

Pre-season friendlies don’t usually get me excited for a multi, but three Saturday NZT matches have caught my eye this week. All three feature a top-tier club against clearly weaker opposition, and the combined odds come in just under $10.00. This is a football multi bet worth a crack.

Rosenborg vs Manchester United

Saturday July 25, 4:00am NZT, Lerkendal Stadion, Trondheim

Yes, Man Utd lost 1-0 to Wrexham last week. But that Helsinki match was game one under Michael Carrick, with the entire XI swapped at half-time and no Bruno Fernandes or Lisandro Martinez - several World Cup players were still on their post-tournament breaks. Sam Smith scored the only goal on 39 minutes in an otherwise drab affair.

This is pre-season game two and I’d expect a sharper side with more senior players getting extended minutes. Rosenborg are mid-season in Norway and in form - two consecutive 3-0 wins in the Eliteserien - but a side sitting 10th out of 16 is a different level to a team that finished third in the Premier League.

I’m backing United at $1.95 on NZ betting sites.

St Pauli vs Bournemouth

Saturday July 25, 3:00am NZT, Saalfelden, Austria

Bournemouth had a strong 2025-26 - sixth in the Premier League with 57 points and an 18-match unbeaten run at one stage. They’ve qualified for the Europa League. St Pauli went the opposite direction, relegated from the Bundesliga with a nine-game losing streak and now preparing for lower-tier football.

Both clubs are in the early stages of pre-season. St Pauli beat HNK Gorica 2-1 and drew Werder Bremen 0-0 in their warm-ups, so they won’t be completely cold. But a side gearing up for second-division German football against a Premier League club heading into Europe - I can’t see it.

Bournemouth at $2.20 across betting apps is my pick.

Derby County vs SC Freiburg

Saturday July 25, 2:00am NZT, Tyrol, Austria

I’m most confident about this leg. Freiburg were Europa League runners-up two months ago, losing the final to Aston Villa. They finished seventh in the Bundesliga with Igor Matanovic scoring 15 goals across all competitions. A side that went that deep into European competition isn’t going to be fazed by a Championship opponent.

Derby finished eighth in the Championship last season with 69 points - four off the playoff places. Both sides are on Austrian training camps, so there’s no home advantage at play here.

My football tips for this fixture are to get behind the $2.30 for a Bundesliga side coming off a European final to beat a second-tier English club.
