Football Multi Bet

This week’s pre-season friendlies have given me three legs I’m high on for a football multi bet this Wednesday. I’m on a newly promoted Premier League side in Slovenia, plus a handicap on a squad that was at Eden Park on Sunday. If you’re keen on a return just shy of 10x, read on.

Caykur Rizespor vs Hull City

Wednesday July 29, 4:00am NZT, Ljudski vrt, Maribor

Hull City opened their summer with a 3-0 win over Konyaspor on Saturday and I want them again here. Enis Destan headed the first on 28 minutes, an own goal doubled it and Abu Kamara finished the job.

Rizespor came eighth in the Super Lig last season, one spot above Konyaspor. Their preparation is further along, mind. This is their fourth friendly of the summer and their league starts in mid-August, while Hull don’t begin theirs until late August.

That fitness gap is why I’ll take $2.40 rather than a shorter price. Jack Butland is in goal now and my football expert tips point to Hull.

Aston Villa vs Real Sociedad

Wednesday July 29, 6:30am NZT, Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium

I like Villa at $1.90 even if the price is a touch skinny. They beat Walsall 5-0 at this ground on July 21, then lost only 2-1 at Porto on Saturday, which has me convinced they’re heading in the right direction.

Real Sociedad are awkward, sure. They played here three days ago and won 2-1 against Wolves, Orri Oskarsson equalising before the break and Alex Lebarbier settling it. They’re the Copa del Rey holders too, so no free lunch.

Villa fly to Indonesia after this, with more Asian travel before the Super Cup against PSG on August 12. This is their last outing on English grass for a while, so I’d expect a heavy team for an hour.

If it’s level at the interval, live betting sites should offer better than $1.90.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Sydney FC

Wednesday July 29, 9:45pm NZT, Allianz Stadium, Sydney

Right, this is the one I’ll actually be awake for. Tottenham beat Auckland FC 2-0 at Eden Park on Sunday in front of 40,112, a record crowd for a men’s football match in New Zealand. Archie Gray captained a young XI with eight academy graduates.

Dane Scarlett scored on 12 minutes and Richarlison got the second from a Mathys Tel cutback with 20 minutes to go. Sydney FC lost the A-League Grand Final 1-0 to Auckland in May.

Andy Robertson and Sandro Tonali both travelled and neither has played a minute yet, so a stronger starting XI is coming. My worry is obvious. Spurs only won by two with the kids, so -1.5 asks for the same margin from a better side.

I’ll wear that at $2.00, with betting promotions offering a bit of insurance.
