Man City vs Brentford Prediction: Premier League Betting Tips & Odds

Manchester City host Brentford at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday morning New Zealand time in a Premier League match with title implications at one end of the table and European ambitions at the other.

City are five points off leaders Arsenal with a game in hand - so dropping points here is not an option. Brentford, seventh on 51 points, have their own season to play for as they chase a first-ever European qualification. 

In this Manchester City vs Brentford preview, I look at the form, the key men, and where the value is in the goals market for punters using football tips to guide their weekend bets.

Manchester City

City needed a 97th-minute Jeremy Doku equaliser to salvage a 3-3 draw at Everton on Monday. It’s safe to say the manner of that second-half collapse will concern Pep Guardiola. 

They were cruising 1-0 at half-time, completely dominant, and then Marc Guehi’s poor backpass sparked a chaotic 13-minute spell where Everton scored three. Erling Haaland and Doku dragged them back, but City should have won that match.

At the Etihad, though, their record is outstanding - 12 wins, three draws and one defeat from 16 home league games. Haaland has 25 Premier League goals this season and is the Golden Boot frontrunner again. Rayan Cherki and Doku have been excellent in recent weeks too.

Team News: Gvardiol is still out long-term with a fractured tibia. Dias has missed seven games with an ankle issue and is unlikely to feature. Rodri is a major doubt with a groin injury - missed three in a row but reportedly progressing.

Predicted Lineup: Donnarumma; Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi, O’Reilly; Gonzalez, Silva; Semenyo, Cherki, Doku; Haaland.

Brentford

That 3-0 win over West Ham last Saturday was exactly what Brentford needed. Before it, they’d gone six league games without a win - five of those draws. An own goal, an Igor Thiago penalty and a Mikkel Damsgaard strike put the Hammers away comfortably, in what was their most convincing display in months.

Thiago has been outstanding this season. 22 Premier League goals, second only to Haaland in the Golden Boot race. City’s centre-backs will need to be switched on against him.

But their away form is the concern. Six wins from 17 on the road, with nine losses. They haven’t beaten City since May 2023 - that’s six meetings without a win, including a 1-0 defeat at the Gtech earlier this term and a 2-0 loss in the EFL Cup quarter-final.

Team News: Carvalho and Milambo are done for the season with ACL injuries. Henry is out with a hamstring issue. Henderson and Janelt are both doubts - Janelt was an unused substitute against West Ham, so he could feature from the bench.

Predicted Lineup: Kelleher; Kayode, Van den Berg, Collins, Lewis-Potter; Yarmoliuk, Jensen; Ouattara, Damsgaard, Schade; Thiago.

• Manchester City have won seven of 10 meetings with Brentford since 2021.
• Brentford’s last victory over City came in May 2023 at the Gtech Community Stadium.
• City have scored in 17 consecutive Premier League home games.
• Haaland has scored in five of his six career Premier League appearances against Brentford. 
• Over 2.5 goals has occurred in three of Brentford’s last four matches.

I’m not going to lie: I can’t see an upset here. City at $1.38 don’t offer much value, but they should win. The Everton result will sting, and Guardiola’s teams rarely produce two poor results in a row.

What I’m less certain about is whether Brentford score. They have the personnel for it - Thiago against a centre-back pairing of Khusanov and Guehi is a physical contest, and Damsgaard can thread passes into dangerous areas. 

If you’re browsing NZ betting sites for this one, the BTTS market at $1.65 is where I’ve been leaning.

City are at home and will control possession. If Rodri returns, the midfield is even more locked down. I’m tipping City 2-1, possibly 3-1 if Brentford chase the game late.

Over 2.5 Goals @ $1.55

The over has come through in three of Brentford’s last four, including the 4-3 thriller at Burnley and the 2-2 with Everton. City’s most recent match produced six goals at Everton, and they’ve scored 66 in the league this season - more than every side bar Arsenal.

Haaland alone could account for two. Thiago will get chances too, and if Brentford concede early they won’t park up and absorb pressure - that’s not how they play under Keith Andrews.

Anyone checking betting promotions available this weekend will find decent value on this overs line. At $1.55 it won’t break the bank, but I see this finishing with at least three goals and potentially more.
