PSG vs Manchester United Prediction: Betting Tips & Odds

PSG vs Manchester United Prediction
PSG and Manchester United meet at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg on Sunday morning New Zealand time in a pre-season friendly with a lot more riding on it than the result alone.
PSG are coming off a 3-0 thumping by Mallorca in their first outing since winning the Champions League final in May. A depleted squad with no rhythm and a Super Cup against Aston Villa four days after this one.
In this PSG vs Manchester United preview, I dig into form, fitness and what the absences mean for both sides. I’ve also found a goals angle worth tracking if you’re keen on some football sports betting this week.
PSG vs Manchester United Analysis
PSG
I don’t care about the Mallorca result in isolation. Pre-season friendlies are about minutes, not points. But that 3-0 loss was telling. Without Dembele, Barcola, Zaire-Emery and the rest of their French contingent, PSG looked disconnected going forward. Kvaratskhelia was the one dangerous outlet and Safonov couldn’t do much about three goals from a relegated La Liga outfit.
Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, Marquinhos and Ibrahim Mbaye reported for training on August 3 after their World Cup holidays. That gives them roughly five days of work before Gothenburg. Not enough to be sharp, but potentially enough for 20-30 minutes off the bench. PSG’s French internationals and Fabian Ruiz won’t return until after this game, and the Super Cup on August 12 is clearly where their focus will be.
Both Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani left PSG in the summer. Striking options are thin. Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu will likely lead the attack again.
Team News: Dembele, Barcola, Zaire-Emery, Doue, Hernandez, Fabian Ruiz and Digne are all still on World Cup leave. Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, Marquinhos and Mbaye returned to training this week but face late fitness tests. Ramos and Kolo Muani departed.
Predicted Lineup: Safonov; Zabarnyi, Beraldo, Marquinhos; Mbaye, Vitinha, Fernandez, Sanches, Nuno Mendes; Kvaratskhelia, Mayulu.
Manchester United
Three pre-season games in, and I can see Carrick’s side getting progressively better. A 1-0 loss to Wrexham was sluggish, but their 5-0 demolition of Rosenborg was convincing. And the 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid last week, with Bryan Mbeumo scoring twice, felt like a side finding its groove.
Andrey Santos has impressed me. The new signing from Chelsea looks composed in midfield, screening well and reading the game at a level beyond his 22 years. Mount also caught the eye against Atletico. If Bruno Fernandes gets some minutes after returning from World Cup duty with Portugal, United’s midfield depth will look strong.
Mbeumo is the standout performer of pre-season. Four goals in two and a bit games. I’d expect him to cause problems against PSG’s makeshift defence.
Team News: Mainoo (back), Tielemans, Ugarte and De Ligt are all out injured. Martinez and Rashford won’t return until August 10 after late World Cup involvement. Sesko is a doubt with shin splints. Fernandes is back in training.
Predicted Lineup: Lammens; Yoro, Heaven, Maguire, Shaw; Santos, Mount; Diallo, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo.
PSG vs Manchester United Stats and Trends

- Four of PSG’s five competitive matches before the summer break produced under 2.5 goals.
PSG vs Manchester United Prediction
I’m tipping Man Utd.
It feels wrong to back against the European champions, but this isn’t really PSG in any meaningful sense. Their entire French core is missing. Fabian Ruiz is missing. And the squad that took the pitch against Mallorca looked like they’d met each other the day before.
Man Utd have three games under their belt and a structure that looks solid. Mbeumo up front has been in frightening form, and if Fernandes gets 30-40 minutes off the bench, that’s a significant upgrade. I don’t know if PSG will have Marquinhos or Vitinha available for significant minutes, given they only returned to training this week.
I wouldn’t go nuts on the price. Pre-season is pre-season. But on balance, I fancy United to edge it. If you’re checking the new betting sites available in New Zealand, this is a decent game to get started with.
PSG vs Manchester United - The Ultimate Bet
Manchester United to Win @ $2.20
PSG’s squad for this game is almost unrecognisable from the one that defeated Arsenal in the Champions League final. Five first-choice French internationals are on holiday. So is Fabian Ruiz. Ousmane Dembele, the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner, won’t be in Gothenburg.
Man Utd aren’t at full strength either, but they’ve got more minutes in their legs and a back four that has played together for three consecutive games now. At $2.20, it’s a fair price on the best sports betting apps NZ punters can access this summer.
