USA vs Australia Prediction: World Cup Betting Tips & Odds

USA vs Australia Prediction
The United States and Australia meet at Seattle Stadium on Saturday morning New Zealand time with both sides on three points after convincing opening wins. A win here all but guarantees a spot in the knockout rounds.
In this USA vs Australia preview I’ve got a goals-market angle that should appeal for those keen to bet on football at the World Cup.
USA vs Australia Analysis
United States
Folarin Balogun scored twice and Christian Pulisic had a hand in everything as the USA thumped Paraguay 4-1 in their opener. But Pulisic didn’t come out for the second half after taking a kick to his calf, and he’s been training separately all week. Mauricio Pochettino says he’s “good” and teammates have played it down, but I won’t fully believe it until I see him in the starting XI on Friday morning.
Team News: Pulisic (calf) is a doubt. Full squad otherwise available.
Predicted Lineup: Freese; Dest, Freeman, Richards, Ream, Robinson; Tillman, Adams, McKennie; Pulisic, Balogun.
Australia
Australia set up in a deep 5-4-1 against Turkey and had just 28% of the ball. They faced 30 shots and won 2-0. Nestory Irankunda broke the deadlock on the counter in the 27th minute and Connor Metcalfe added a second late. It was clinical, but replicating that approach against a USA side with more attacking quality and a home crowd in Seattle will be tougher.
Team News: No injuries or suspensions. Full squad available.
Predicted Lineup: Beach; Italiano, Circati, Souttar, Burgess, Bos; O’Neill, Metcalfe, Okon-Engstler, Irankunda; Toure.
USA vs Australia Stats and Trends
- The USA have won the last two meetings against Australia, 3-1 in 2010 and 2-1 in October 2025.
- Patrick Beach recorded eight saves in Australia’s 2-0 win over Turkey.
- Australia won their opening World Cup fixture for the first time since 2006.
USA vs Australia Prediction
I’m backing the USA, though I don’t think it’ll be as comfortable as Paraguay. Australia will frustrate them, compress the midfield and look to counter through Irankunda’s pace. Without Pulisic at full fitness, their creativity drops. I can see a tight 1-0 or 2-1 - not the open affair most are expecting.
If you’re tracking free bets across World Cup markets, the goals angle is where I’d look here.
USA vs Australia - The Ultimate Bet
Under 2.5 Goals @ $1.85
Australia’s approach against Turkey was to soak up pressure and limit quality chances from open play. I expect them to do the same here. Without a fully fit Pulisic, the USA’s cutting edge in the final third isn’t guaranteed. Their last two meetings produced tight scorelines.
At $1.85, I’m happy to back this on the best online betting sites in New Zealand.
