West Ham vs Arsenal Prediction

West Ham and Arsenal meet at the London Stadium on Monday morning New Zealand time in a Premier League derby with big implications.

Arsenal are top on 76 points, five clear of Manchester City who have a game in hand. West Ham dropped into the bottom three last weekend after a 3-0 defeat at Brentford, with Tottenham leapfrogging them. Three games to go, and the Hammers need points badly.

In this West Ham vs Arsenal preview, I’m looking at form, team news, and a goals angle worth backing on live betting sites for this one.

West Ham vs Arsenal Analysis

West Ham

West Ham’s form since Nuno Espirito Santo took charge in late September has transformed a side that looked dead and buried. They were second-bottom when he arrived, seven points adrift of safety. Now they’re right in the fight, even if last weekend’s result was a setback.

That 3-0 loss at Brentford on Saturday was a shocker, and the timing couldn’t be worse. Tottenham won on the same afternoon, meaning West Ham slipped from 17th to 18th with three games to go. Their final-day fixture against Leeds could end up being an absolute doozy.

I’ve been impressed by Jarrod Bowen’s output this season. Eight goals and 10 assists in the league puts him among the most productive wide players in the division, and he’s been central to everything good about West Ham under Nuno.

Team News: West Ham have a clean bill of health. Only backup goalkeeper Fabianski is out with a back injury.

Predicted Lineup: Hermansen; Walker-Peters, Mavropanos, Disasi, Diouf; Bowen, Soucek, Fernandes, Summerville; Pablo; Castellanos.

Arsenal

Tuesday night changed the mood around this club entirely. Bukayo Saka’s first-half goal against Atletico Madrid sent Arsenal to their first Champions League final since 2006, and you could feel the weight of 20 years being dumped at the Emirates.

That euphoria can go either way in their next match. Sometimes teams ride the wave, sometimes there’s a dip. I think Arteta will rotate given the magnitude of what’s coming in Budapest on May 30, but Arsenal’s depth is good enough that a second-string XI would still be too strong for most sides in this league. Viktor Gyokeres scored twice in the 3-0 win over Fulham last weekend and looked sharp again against Atletico.

Their Premier League form has wobbled, though. Consecutive away losses to Bournemouth and Manchester City in April let City back into the title race, but wins over Newcastle and Fulham restored order. They’ve scored 64 league goals this season and conceded just 26, the best defensive record in the division.

Team News: Merino is out with a foot injury. Timber is a doubt with a groin problem but may return. Havertz is also a doubt. Odegaard’s knee has been managed carefully and he could be rested here with the Champions League final on the horizon.

Predicted Lineup: Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie; Rice, Zubimendi; Saka, Eze, Trossard; Gyokeres.

West Ham vs Arsenal Stats and Trends

  • Arsenal have won five of their last six Premier League meetings with West Ham.
  • The reverse fixture at the Emirates ended 2-0 to Arsenal, with Declan Rice and Saka scoring.
  • West Ham have lost 37 Premier League games to Arsenal, more than against any other opponent.
  • Arsenal have conceded just 26 league goals this season, the fewest in the division.
  • West Ham have scored in six of their last seven away matches across all competitions.

West Ham vs Arsenal Prediction

I’m expecting an Arsenal win here, but I’m not sure it’ll be the straightforward stroll the odds suggest. West Ham are fighting for survival, and teams in that position tend to find a gear they didn’t know they had. The London Stadium will be hostile.

Arteta may rest one or two players with the Champions League final less than four weeks away. I don’t think he’ll go wild with rotation - dropping points when City have a game in hand would be reckless - but the likes of Odegaard could be saved for later.

My gut says Arsenal win, probably by a couple of goals, but West Ham get one late. That 3-0 Brentford result felt like an outlier rather than the norm for a West Ham side that scored in six of their last seven away matches. If you’re looking through football betting markets this week, the goals angle is where I’d focus.

West Ham vs Arsenal - The Ultimate Bet

Arsenal to Win and Over 2.5 Goals @ $2.60

Arsenal have the best defence in the league, sure, but they’ve also scored 64 goals in 35 matches. West Ham have conceded around 61 this season, the worst record in the division. And despite their struggles, they’ve scored in all but one of their last eight away league games.

I’m backing Arsenal to win in a match with three or more goals. At $2.60, it’s a decent price given how often Arsenal have won comfortably this season.
