Two Round of 16 matches fall on July 5 NZT, and the World Cup 2026 odds on both are pointing one way.

Morocco face Canada in Houston and France take on Paraguay in Philadelphia, and I’ve combined three legs across the two games for a multi paying $8.15 on football betting sites

If you’ve been holding onto free bets, this is a decent day to use them. Both NZ betting sites and betting apps have promotions running into the quarter-final stage, and there’s value on offer in these two fixtures.

Top Picks for World Cup Day 24 | July 5

Canada vs Morocco

Morocco to beat Canada ($1.85)

Morocco are unbeaten in four matches at this World Cup. They drew 1-1 with Brazil in their opener and won both remaining group matches, then eliminated the Netherlands on penalties in Monterrey. Ismael Saibari scored in all three group fixtures and buried the decisive spot kick against the Dutch.

I’m high on them at $1.85.

Canada are fresher - their win over South Africa came inside 90 minutes, while Morocco needed 120 plus penalties. But I don’t think tired legs will close the gap here. Stephen Eustaquio’s 92nd-minute volley against South Africa was brilliant, and Alphonso Davies is back from his hamstring problem.

Morocco, though, beat Canada 2-1 at the last World Cup and have never lost to them in four meetings.

✓ Long Shot: Canada to win ($4.80)
✓ Extra Tip: Both teams to score ($2.15)

Paraguay vs France

France to beat Paraguay by two or more goals ($2.05)

I can’t justify tipping France at $1.20 in a multi. But France -1.5 at $2.05 is more enticing.

Kylian Mbappe has six goals in four matches at this tournament and scored twice in the 3-0 defeat of Sweden. Bradley Barcola and Michael Olise have been outstanding alongside him. France have scored three or more in three consecutive matches.

Paraguay pulled off the impossible against Germany and I’m not forgetting about that. Orlando Gill was incredible in the shootout and Julio Enciso’s header was one of the best goals of the round.

But Paraguay created very little against Germany across 120 minutes and needed penalties to get through. Against a French defence that’s better again, I’d expect even less from them going forward.

Paraguay will fight for every minute, but France should win this one with room to spare.

✓ Long Shot: Paraguay to qualify ($9.50)
✓ Extra Tip: Over 2.5 goals ($1.60)
