Monday’s Round of 16 double-header offers two very different matchups, and I’ve been through the World Cup 2026 odds on both.

Spain face Portugal in an Iberian showdown at AT&T Stadium, while the USA host Belgium in Seattle. Football betting sites have Spain as clear favourites, and I agree - but there’s value in the second game too. Plenty of free bets to take advantage of on NZ betting sites and betting apps for this one.

Top Picks for World Cup Day 26 | 7 July

Spain vs Portugal

Spain to win ($1.90)

I’m backing Spain here without much hesitation.

They’ve gone four matches without conceding a goal in this tournament - the first European side to manage that since Switzerland in 2006. Mikel Oyarzabal scored twice against Austria in their 3-0 Round of 32 win, taking his tournament tally to four. Lamine Yamal looked fit and dangerous off the right, and Marc Cucurella created both Oyarzabal goals from the left.

Bigger picture, Spain are on a 34-game unbeaten run in competitive internationals.

Portugal scraped past Croatia with a 94th-minute header from Goncalo Ramos, winning 2-1 after Cristiano Ronaldo had equalised from the penalty spot. Two goalless draws against DR Congo and Colombia in the group stage suggest they’ll struggle to break this Spanish defence down.

✓ Long Shot: Spain -1.5 goals ($3.50)
✓ Extra Tip: Under 2.5 goals ($2.10)

USA vs Belgium

USA to win ($2.60)

This is the riskier fixture to bet on. Folarin Balogun is out after a controversial red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina - a one-match ban with no appeal route under FIFA rules. He was the USA’s top scorer with three goals. Ricardo Pepi or Haji Wright will likely lead the line instead.

But Belgium worry me more.

They trailed Senegal 2-0 in the 85th minute of their Round of 32 tie before Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans dragged them back, eventually winning 3-2 after 120 minutes. Their defence has been poor all tournament - they’ve conceded in three of four matches. Factor in those extra-time legs and a trip across the country to Seattle, and I don’t love their chances against a rested home side.

✓ Long Shot: Christian Pulisic anytime scorer ($3.10)
✓ Extra Tip: Over 2.5 goals ($1.77)
