It’s final day. Spain and Argentina go at it on Monday morning NZT at New York New Jersey Stadium, and we’ve ended up with the matchup most neutrals wanted.

World Cup 2026 odds have Spain as favourites, and it’s not difficult to see why – six of seven matches won, one goal conceded all tournament, and six clean sheets, a new World Cup record.

Argentina have won all seven of theirs, though the road here has been chaotic. All four of their knockout wins have needed either extra time or a stoppage-time goal to get through.

I’ve got a three-leg multi from this final returning over 15x. If you’ve been holding free bets for the right moment, this is it. Compare prices across football betting sites and check the latest from NZ betting sites and betting apps before kickoff.

Top Picks for World Cup Day 35 | July 20

Spain vs Argentina

Spain to win ($2.15)

I’m backing Spain in the 90 minutes. They’ve been the best side in this tournament by a distance and their defence says it all – one goal conceded in seven matches, with Pau Cubarsi and Aymeric Laporte shutting down everything that’s come their way. Rodri and Fabian Ruiz dominate every midfield they step into, and Mikel Oyarzabal has five goals from number nine.

Argentina have Lionel Messi, and he’s been extraordinary – eight goals, a record nine consecutive World Cup matches on the scoresheet earlier in the tournament, and a real shot at his first Golden Boot.

But Argentina have been on the edge all tournament. They trailed Egypt 2-0 before clawing it back and needed extra time against both Cape Verde and Switzerland. Against England, they were trailing until the 85th minute before Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez turned it around in the final five minutes, both from Messi deliveries. Spain don’t concede those late openings.

I’d be surprised if Argentina get the room to stage another comeback here, and at $2.15 for the 90-minute result, I’m comfortable.
