Saturday Racing Tips - Ellerslie 07/03/26

Arguably the best racing card of the year hits Ellerslie on Saturday with there being six Group races with three of those races being Group 1 contests.

Ahead of the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips. As well as our exclusive tips we have highlighted three races which look to be the most competitive of the day. Whether you want to back a short priced favourite, or a horse at longer odds, read on as we have every angle covered.

Legarto – 3.60

Kingswood – 4.20

Waitak – 9.50

BEST BET – Legarto

Legarto has already tasted success in four Grade 1 contests and following her dominant win in the Herbie Dyke Stakes last time out, few would bet agaisnt a fifth Grade 1 victory here. She’s the one to beat.

THE DANGER – Kingswood

Kingswood isn’t as experienced as Legarto when it comes to racing at this level, but he tasted success in the Cambridge Stud Zabeel Classic, but couldn’t overcome Legarto in the Herbie Dyke Stakes. He has form to prove, but conditions could be in his favour here and that form could be overturned.

VALUE BET – Waitak

When it comes to value, Waitak could be the play. A three-time Grade 1 winner, his form over his last two starts has been questionable. Whilst he has no chance if he continues in this vein, if back to his best he could well cause an upset.

That’s Gold – 5.25

Road to Paris – 6.50

BEST BET – Autumn Glory

The HKJC World Pool NZ Derby looks to be between Autumn Glory and That’s Gold and we think that Autumn Glory may just have the edge. The winner of the Waikato Guineas, she was just touched off in the NZ Oaks. She has the best form and should confirm her class here.

THE DANGER – That’s Gold

There will be plenty backing That’s Gold. Coming into this race with consecutive wins, she won her first crack in graded company when winning the Avondale Guineas. She doesn’t quite have the form of Autumn Glory but looks to be more than capable of winning here.

VALUE BET – Road to Paris

Whilst this looks like a race between the top two in the market, those seeking value could choose Road to Paris. She was beaten by That’s Gold in the Avondale Guineas but that was still a good showing. She will need the top two in the market to falter, but she looks good from a place perspective.

Liguria – 16.00

BEST BET – Lara Antipova

In the Sistema Stakes the best two-year-olds in the country will gather and the one they will all need to beat is Lara Antipova. Unbeaten in all three of her starts, she has won two Group 2 contests and looks ready to land this prestigious contest.

THE DANGER – Justin Case

The horse that has the best form behind Lara Antipova is Justin Case. After just missing out on debut, he has recorded two consecutive victories and looked one of the best young horses in the country when winning the Fairview Matamata Slipper. He could pull off the upset.

VALUE BET – Liguria

In a race where horses are constantly finding improvement, one horse to potentially back here is Liguria. A disappointing debut was left miles behind when she won the Group 3 Colin Jillings 2-year-old Classic. She is a big price here and she represents a tonne of value.
