Only seven runners in this one, and a few live chances, but it’s hard for me to go past Xarpo. Last time out, the mare proved too good at Caulfield Heath. That was over 1,200m, and she seems to be just as good over the 1,400m. She is yet to fire when second-up, but her last second-up effort was against tougher company. Drops some weight as well. There’s a lot to like.

Another race where the market has its eye on several runners. For me, though, I like the look of Nesrine. This will be the first time we see her race in 2026, but she rounded out 2025 in winning fashion, getting the hat-trick of victories. She’s had a recent trial, which looked good, and she seems primed to go for this one. Gets a weight relief as well, with apprentice jockey Olivia Chambers on her back.

Weekend Spirit has been producing solid results without being able to get the win. He comes into this race as the narrow favourite, and deservedly so. He has produced back-to-back placings at Doomben and Ipswich. Jockey Ryan Maloney, who was on board last time out, sticks with him here. A lot is working in his favour, and he should break his maiden today.
