One of our best bets of the day comes in the second race where Seize The Day will be looking to get off the mark at the second time of asking. Heavily backed on his debut, he could only finish third on debut but he takes a small class drop here and represents top connections – the one to beat.

THE DANGER – Excite

The danger looks like it will come from Excite. Also having his second run, he finished second at Pukekura Raceway three weeks ago and there could be more to come here.

VALUE BET – In The Vineyard

In a race where there isn’t too much form to go off, it could be worth siding with In The Vineyard. A runner of three races, he is yet to finish outside the places but has proven vulnerable to an improver in the past. He looks the value play but could fall short once again.

Matamata Tractors & Machinery Maiden (1050m)

Presence Of Mind – 6.00

Paper Moon – 10.00

BEST BET – Biding My Time

This could be a race that Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson dominate but we will back against them in the shape of Biding My Time. Having hit the crossbar in her two races to date, she has the best form and this looks like the ideal opportunity to get off the mark.

THE DANGER – Presence Of Mind

The main danger could well be Presence Of Mind. Likely to be the strongest Walker and Bergerson fancy, a promising debut has been franked by two lesser efforts where she finished well down the field on both occasions. She comes out of the city and should have benefitted from having almost five months off the track.

VALUE BET – Paper Moon

If neither of the top two in the market make much appeal then the play could be with Paper Moon. The second string for the Walker and Bergerson duo, she posted the best effort of her career when finishing second at Tauherenikau at the start of January. This is tougher but at a price she could be a player.

In the sixth race of the day Sarti will be the one they need to beat. Having had two runs, those runs have yielded a win and a second place effort and there could be plenty more to come from this likeable type.

THE DANGER – Sister Cynane

There are many dangers within this field but one horse who stands out is Sister Cynane. Arguably the most consistent horse in this field, she has recorded just the one win but has finished second three times and third twice. She knows where the finish line and should be massively competitive here.

VALUE BET – Carsolio

It could be yet another profitable day for the dynamic duo of Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson and they look to have another chance in the sixth race of the day with Carsolio. Although it has been five runs now without a win, he is another consistent type and has placed on several occasions since. Craig Grylls is the jockey on board and his chances have to be hugely respected.
