The danger could be Kindling Spark. A veteran of the track he has two wins from twelve starts and has placed on a further two occasions. He has struggled of late but a return to these calmer waters should help.

VALUE BET – Henry Thomas

Compared to the two horses we have already mentioned, Henry Thomas is unexposed and could be capable of playing a part. Four of his seven career starts have come here and he has tasted success. Having won and placed at this distance he looks the overwhelming value play.

It could be a busy day for Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson and they look to have another solid chance with Arctic Jewel. A recent breaker of his maiden, this will be his first try at Riccarton Park but ground conditions should be perfect, and another big run can be expected.

THE DANGER – Discretion Rules

Discretion Rules is a stablemate of Arctic Jewel and arrives with plenty more experience. Six of his ten runs have come at the track with that yielding a win, two second places and a third; this is easier than recent assignments, and he has to be considered.

VALUE BET – Last Hello

Whereas most of this field is scratching around to find their best form, Last Hello is coming off a win at the track ten days ago. That win came on a heavy track but he has placed when there is a little bit of juice in the ground and he can’t be discounted.

BEST BET – Unwoke

The second race of the day looks to be the most competitive on the card and picking a winner looks to be tricky. A tentative favourite will be Unwoke, yet to win, he has placed twice and this looks to be a golden opportunity to finally get off the mark.

THE DANGER – Reservoir Falls

Many will find Reservoir Falls appealing. He has amassed the most prize money and has two second place efforts from his last three starts. He has been knocking on the door and few can match that form here.

VALUE BET – Emerging Falls

Emerging Falls represents some real value and could be considered as overpriced. She has had four runs and has placed once and finished fourth twice. She is used to competing at the business end of races and the competition isn’t as fierce as some of her past encounters.
