The Storm finally got on the board with a win after losing seven games in a row for the first time in the club’s history. Meanwhile, the Panthers are sitting pretty with 18 points, two points clear of the Warriors and Roosters. The Dragons are still cemented at the bottom of the table, yet to chalk up their first win.

Cronulla Sharks vs Canterbury Bulldogs

tip

All the magic of Magic Round begins with the Sharks and Bulldogs. These are two teams sitting outside the top eight and will be desperate for a win. The Sharks have won two of their last five games, and last time out, they went down to the Rabbitohs 12-36. The Bulldogs aren’t faring much better; they’ve lost their last four games to the likes of the Dolphins, Cowboys, Broncos, and Eels.

Neither team has the best of records here at Suncorp, with the Sharks winning 37% of their games, and the Bulldogs just 29%. For the Sharks, Blayke Brailey is in danger of missing this one after failing his HIA. There are also whispers that Ronaldo Mulitalo could make his first appearance, but we’ll have to wait and see. Matt Burton will be back for the Bulldogs after missing their last game with an illness. Neither team is exactly consistent, but I have to give a slight edge to the Sharks.

South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Dolphins

tip

It’s technically the Rabbitohs home game, but at Suncorp Stadium, we’ll see a lot of Dolphins fans. Both teams are coming into this one in semi-decent form, with the Rabbitohs winning three of their last four games, and the Dolphins riding a two-game winning streak. The Rabbitohs have been piling on the points as of late, scoring 30+ in their last five games. The Dolphins did put up 44 points against the Bulldogs in their latest win.

Latrell Mitchell was out for the Rabbitohs' last game with a bulging disc in his back, and there’s still a question mark around if he’ll return for this game. Francis Molo is in a little doubt for the Dolphins after injuring his ankle. The Rabbitohs would love to hold on to their top-four spot, but will need to win this one if they want that. The last two games between these teams have been high scoring (70 and 78), take the overs for points.

Wests Tigers vs Manly Sea Eagles

tip

The poor Tigers. It wasn’t that long ago that they were sitting pretty in the top four. They’ve now dropped down to sixth spot on the ladder, and have a host of injuries/ suspensions to key players. They face off against the Sea Eagles, who have been performing extremely well under new coach, Kieran Foran, winning four of their last five, including a 32-4 demolition of the Broncos last time out.

Adam Doueihi, Samuela Fainu, Jahream Bula, and Api Koroisau are all out for the Tigers. Siosiua Taukeiaho fractured his leg and will likely miss several weeks for the Sea Eagles. The Tigers have lost three of their last five, including their last two in a row, where they’ve lost by big margins. It seems they just don’t know how to win without some of their stars. I think they’ll suffer more of the same in this clash (and until at least some of their stars come back).

Key NRL Betting Influencers - Round 11

A lot is happening this round, but here are the key factors that will most likely impact your bets:

  1. The Rabbitohs are an attacking side, and they’ve scored 30+ points in their last five games. Plus, the last two games between the Rabbitohs and Dolphins have resulted in 70 and 78 points scored. Take the overs.
  2. The Roosters have been swimming along nicely, winning six in a row now. While the Cowboys have been decent enough, they’ll be without Tom Dearden. The Roosters should be winning this one comfortably.
  3. After a few wobbly rounds, it looks like the Knights have found their feet again. They come up against the Titans, who haven’t exactly been the best so far this season. The Knights have points in them, and they could win comfortably.

Sydney Roosters vs North Queensland Cowboys

tip

The middle Saturday game features the Roosters and Cowboys. The Roosters have been flying as of late, winning their last six games in a row. They are now in third spot on the ladder, with 16 points. The Cowboys have been decent enough recently, but they did go down in golden point to the Eels. If some things had gone a little differently, they could have picked up the two points there.

Both Lindsay Collins and Angus Crichton could be making their return for the Roosters in this clash, while Victor Radley is out for one game after his high tackle. If the Cowboys want to continue any form of momentum going forward, they’ll have to do it without Tom Dearden, who’ll be on the sidelines for six to eight weeks with an ankle injury. The Roosters have all the form; they should win this one comfortably.

Parramatta Eels vs Melbourne Storm

tip

Are the Storm back? Their dominant win over an injury-riddled Tigers team was a step in the right direction, but they still have a lot of spots in the ladder to make up. The Eels haven’t exactly been in the best of form as of late, but they did manage to get a golden point win over the Cowboys, 33-30. It’s safe to say these are two inconsistent teams, and they’re sitting right next to each other on the ladder as well.

The Storm and Eels have already played each other this season. Back in Round 1, it was the Storm that had an impressive 52-4 win over the Eels. Obviously, a lot has happened since then, and that win was at AAMI Park. It will be interesting to see how the neutral venue will impact things. The Storm do have the better record at Suncorp, winning 70% of their games, compared to 47% for the Eels.

Gold Coast Titans vs Newcastle Knights

tip

Kicking off all the Sunday action are the Titans and Knights. The Titans have now lost three games in a row, with losses to the Roosters, Raiders, and Warriors. With the return of key players, things seem to be working again for the Knights, who have now won two in a row over the Dragons and Rabbitohs. Interestingly, in the two games these teams played against each other last season, it was the Titans who won both.

Don’t expect many changes for each team. While Moeaki Fotuaika was placed on report for a hip-drop last time out, he has escaped with a fine. In their last two games, the Knights have scored more than 40 points, and in total, they’ve scored 276 points this season, compared to the Titans’ 170. Everything’s coming up Knights, and I reckon they’ll pile on more points for this game as well.

New Zealand Warriors vs Brisbane Broncos

tip

The Warriors come into this one fresh off their bye, and while it’s their home game, the crowd will likely be heavily Broncos-focused. The New Zealand-based team have been building nicely this season, and is currently on a four-game winning streak with victories over the likes of the Eels, Dolphins, Titans, and Storm. The Broncos have been inconsistent virtually all season and have lost their last two games in a row.

This could be a tricky game for the Warriors. On paper, all signs point towards a Warriors win, but the Broncos can pull out a great performance if needed, and playing at home with all the excitement of Magic Round could boost them even further. The likes of Wade Egan, Mitch Barnett, and Charnze Nicoll-Klockstad could all return for the Warriors, while Adam Reynolds is back for the Broncos.

Penrith Panthers vs St. George Illawarra Dragons

tip

Wrapping up Magic Round are the Panthers and Dragons. It seems like things just keep going from bad to worse for the Dragons. Not only do they have to take on the table-topping Panthers, but both Valentine Holmes and Mathew Feagai picked up injuries last time out, and it’s unclear if they’ll be right for this one. Plus, Daniel Atkinson was ruled out for the Dragons’ last game, and we’re not sure if he’ll be back for this clash.

I honestly cannot remember the last time I saw odds like this. The Panthers are $1.01 to win, with the Dragons currently at $12! The Panthers have won their last four games, over the Raiders, Sea Eagles, Knights, and Dolphins. The Dragons haven’t even chalked up their first win yet. Could the Panthers underestimate the Dragons and give them a sniff? I don’t think so; it doesn’t really fit into the DNA of the Panthers, so expect a bloodbath.
