The Roosters and Knights had to do it the hard way, but they live to fight another day.

I said this last week, but the Knights are a team that continues to prove the doubters wrong. I thought they were capable of keeping the game against the Warriors close last time out, but I didn’t think they could win! Now, they’ve gone from the wooden spooners in 2025 to Preliminary Finalists in 2026.

Now, the Knights once again come into this one as the underdogs. However, there are question marks around Nathan Cleary’s foot. Even if Cleary is fit to play, the +10.5 handicap seems a little too big in my eyes. The Panthers are certainly a tough opponent, but it feels like the Knights are playing with house money.

Take the Knights to cover the +10.5 spread @ NZ$1.86.

Tip #2

The Panthers and Knights have only played each other once so far this season, which resulted in a 44-12 victory to the Panthers. Looking back at the recent games these two clubs have played, points have seemingly come at a premium. The Panthers won 19-12 against the Roosters, and the Knights won 12-10 against the Warriors.

Mix that in with the pressure of a Preliminary Final, and I don’t think we’ll see many points scored. These two teams do have attacking flair, but the automatic way of thinking is probably going to be defence. This will make it difficult to score and subdue the level of attack we’ve seen these two clubs produce.

Take under 42.5 total points @ NZ$1.86.

Tip #3

On top of the total points going under, I’m also targeting the Knights in particular, who I don’t believe will score over 20. In the Knights’ two finals clashes, they haven’t managed over 20 points: 12-10 against the Warriors and then 20-10 against the Rabbitohs.

Even in that 20-10 win over the Rabbitohs, it seemed like 20 points was a lot. Also, if we look back across the last two games the Knights have played against the Panthers, they scored 12 on both occasions. I think this will be a low-scoring game overall, and the Knights are more likely to score less than the Panthers, but not by much.
