Roland Garros Expert Tips and Best Bets | May 22
Eight men and eight women advanced through to the French Open main draw via the qualifiers, leaving eight more spots each on Friday, the final day of qualification. These are the best performed players over the last week and will be fighting tooth and nail for a chance to play Grand Slam tennis. Take a look at our three best bets across the day’s action.
Men’s Qualifying – Emilio Nava vs Pedro Martinez: Nava to win in straight sets | $2 with Betista
Emilio Nava is a top 100 player who entered these qualifiers in strong form, having made it through to the final in Portugal at his most recent event. He had a tough first match against Bu Yanchaokete, but still managed to get through in two tight sets and is thus far yet to lose a set through his two matches. Martinez is no slouch, but he has been in really poor form this clay court season, losing his opening round match in straight sets in four consecutive tournaments. Nava has increasingly firmed as favourite with most betting sites in this match and for good reason – at even money he can get it done in straight sets to earn a spot at the French Open.
Women’s Qualifying – Linda Fruhvirtova vs Harmony Tan: Fruhvirtova to win | $1.55 with BetandPlay
Linda Fruhvirtova will not exactly be the most popular player at Roland Garros on the final day of the French Open qualifiers, having knocked off the local Jessika Ponchet last match and with the opportunity to beat a second Frenchwoman in as many matches to secure her spot in the main draw. And despite what the fans might want, she should be able to do exactly that. Neither of these women have been in great form this clay court season but each has found something these qualifiers, but Fruhvirtova is significantly higher ranked than her opponent for a reason. She’s the better player, and fresh off a comfortable win – while Tan was forced to three tight sets in her latest match – should be able to get the job done.
Women’s Qualifying – Kaitlin Quevedo vs Guiomar Maristany Zuleta de Reales: Maristany Zuleta de Reales to win | $2.10 with Zoccer
It’s an all Spanish affair in the 11th qualifier, with the fresh-faced 20-year-old Quevedo coming up against her far more experienced compatriot. Quevedo has undeniable talent and comes into these qualifiers fresh off a victory at Saint Gaudens two weeks ago, but she was struggling prior to that and has been pushed to the brink in both of her matches so far this week. Maristany Zuleta de Reales also came into this week off the back of a solid result, and she has been dominant in her two matches so far. This is an intriguing match between the two Spaniards, but while Quevedo is on track for a really solid career and at her best would be hard to beat, her more experienced opponent has had a better week and is the value bet at better than even money odds on the betting apps.
