Bournemouth vs Liverpool Prediction: Betting Tips & Odds

Andoni Iraola heads back to the Vitality Stadium on Monday morning NZT, this time in the away dugout, as Bournemouth host Liverpool in the Premier League.

This match is a strange one. Iraola guided Bournemouth to sixth last season before swapping the south coast for Anfield, and Marco Rose now has a side that can’t hang on to a lead.

Liverpool are unbeaten without being convincing, while Bournemouth are still waiting on a first league win. In this Bournemouth vs Liverpool preview, I dig into team news and why I think the result and goals markets belong together here.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth have gone in front in all four league matches and still don’t have a win to their name.

No Premier League side had done that before, and the 2-2 with Brentford on 12 September was a fair summary. Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier turned a one-goal deficit around, only for Djordje Petrovic to pass straight to Kevin Schade, who dinked it into an empty net.

I like plenty about how they attack. Tavernier has three league goals already, and Antonio Silva and Rayan both wasted clear openings against Brentford. Their problem is at the other end, with seven conceded in four and too many of those coming after they’d gone ahead.

Then there’s Thursday.

Bournemouth play their first ever European match away to Real Sociedad in San Sebastian, and it hasn’t happened yet at the time of writing. Rose made eight changes for the 4-0 Carabao Cup win over Lincoln, so I expect rotation in Spain. But the trip home and a quick turnaround is a tough ask whatever XI he picks.

Team News: Adli, Kroupi, Araujo and Milosavljevic are out.

Liverpool

Liverpool are hard to read right now.

They beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 in the Champions League on 9 September, then served up a flat 0-0 at home to Fulham three days later. That result means they’ve drawn their last four Premier League games at Anfield, dating back to last season.

Away from home, I’m less worried about them. They fought back for a 2-2 at Newcastle on 23 August, and Alexander Isak scored both in the 2-0 win at Ipswich.

Their summer spending hasn’t clicked yet either. Bradley Barcola made his first Premier League start against Fulham, but even with Florian Wirtz and Isak alongside him, Liverpool managed just three shots on target. Fulham had four, and it took a goal-line clearance from Jeremy Jacquet after an Alisson error to stop the visitors going ahead.

For me, Tuesday was the bigger deal. Iraola made 10 changes from the Fulham side for the Carabao Cup tie with Tottenham, and a much-changed XI won 3-1. Cody Gakpo scored after only making the bench against Fulham with an adductor problem, and Dominik Szoboszlai came on to smash in a third in stoppage time.

Team News: Bradley, Ekitike, Leoni and Chiesa are out. Gomez is a doubt.

Predicted Lineup: Alisson; Araujo, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister; Barcola, Wirtz, Gakpo; Isak.

I’m backing Liverpool to get over the line here.

I don’t love the price at $2.05, and three stalemates from four league games makes me a little concerned.

But the schedule has swung this their way. Liverpool rested most of their starters on Tuesday, while Rose has to juggle minutes across two competitions with Adli and Kroupi still missing. I don’t know how much Thursday will take out of Bournemouth, but I doubt it’ll be nothing.

Iraola coached plenty of this Bournemouth group last season too. He’ll know how they press and where the gaps appear when they commit numbers forward.

I can’t see Bournemouth failing to score, though. Rose’s attack creates enough chances to test Alisson.

I’m going 2-1 Liverpool. Bournemouth taking the lead at some stage wouldn’t surprise me one bit, but I trust Isak and company to finish stronger. If you’ve got betting sites bonuses this weekend, I’d put them towards the result and goals markets rather than a straight Liverpool win.

Bournemouth have scored in every league outing under Rose. Tavernier is in form, and Kluivert chipped in against Brentford as well.
