Chelsea vs Tottenham Prediction

Chelsea and Tottenham meet in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge at 5:30am on Sunday NZT, with seven points and 12 places between the London rivals.

Tottenham finally won a league game on Monday night. Chelsea have taken their last two by a combined 7-1, and they’ve moved into the top four.

In this Chelsea vs Tottenham preview, I’ve gone for a result-and-goals double paying a little over $3. A 21-year-old goalkeeper making his first Premier League start is a big reason I like it. It’s the bet I’d point to for anyone after football tips on this weekend’s Premier League card.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Analysis

Chelsea

Mike Penders is set to start in goal, and that’s where my attention goes first.

He came on at Everton on 17 October after a clash of heads midway through the second half, and he only had a few crosses to deal with. Tottenham at Stamford Bridge should ask more of him, even with their attack in its current state.

Chelsea’s defending has been their problem all season. They’d conceded 13 in six league games before that trip, more than anybody in the division, and the clean sheet there was their first in 23 Premier League games.

Scoring hasn’t been an issue. Pedro Neto struck inside a minute of the second half at Everton and added another in the 90th minute, a week after Bournemouth were thrashed 5-1 in west London. Chelsea have 17 goals from seven league games.

I like how Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers are combining around Joao Pedro, and Moises Caicedo smacked the bar from a corner before half-time at Everton.

Team News: Martinez, James and Gittens are out. Emegha, Chavarria and Gusto are doubts.

Predicted Lineup: Penders; Acheampong, Lacroix, Colwill, Hato; Henderson, Caicedo; Neto, Palmer, Rogers; Joao Pedro.

Tottenham

Tottenham were the last of England’s 92 league clubs to win a game this season.

It took until 19 October and a 3-1 home win over Coventry. James Maddison curled in the opener on 14 minutes in his first start for 536 days, then Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies scored after Jack Rudoni’s equaliser.

I’d be careful reading too much into it. All three goals came from outside the box, and I wouldn’t expect them to repeat that at Stamford Bridge.

Before Monday, they’d scored three times in six league games. Their only away goal came in a 1-1 at Old Trafford, and I can’t see them having much of the ball at Stamford Bridge.

Roberto De Zerbi switched to a back three against Coventry because of injuries, with Mohammed Kudus on the right and Andy Robertson on the left. I’m not sure whether he sticks with it here. Anyone using betting bonuses on an away win is braver than me.

Team News: Simons, Odobert, Bergvall, Mudryk and Savio are out. Bentancur is suspended, and Porro and Udogie are doubts.

Predicted Lineup: Kinsky; Adarabioyo, Van Hecke, Van de Ven; Kudus, Gray, Tonali, Robertson; Maddison, Marmoush; Solanke.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Stats and Trends

  • Chelsea have won their last six Premier League meetings with Tottenham.
  • Tottenham’s last competitive win over Chelsea came in February 2023.
  • Six of Chelsea’s seven league games have gone over 2.5 goals.
  • Both teams have scored in five of Chelsea’s seven league games.
  • Chelsea’s three home league games have produced 17 goals.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Prediction

A home win is the obvious call, but sometimes the obvious is the best play.

Chelsea have lost once in their last four league games. Their opponents’ first win of the season came at home to Coventry, and I’m not convinced one result changes much.

Where I hesitate is the scoreline.

Chelsea let teams in. Brighton scored three at Stamford Bridge in August and Hull got two in September, and I can’t see a keeper on his first league start shutting out Maddison and Marmoush if they strike the ball like they did on Monday.

I’ll admit the case for Tottenham drawing a blank is a decent one. They’ve scored six goals in seven games, and Chelsea did shut out Everton last weekend.

But Tottenham have improved going forward with Maddison back, and Kudus set up the opener against Coventry with a cutback. I’ve got it 3-1 to Chelsea, with Neto involved again.

Chelsea vs Tottenham - The Ultimate Bet

Chelsea to Win and Both Teams to Score @ $3.30

This one needs Tottenham to do what they’ve only managed three times in the league this season.

That’s a fair worry, but Chelsea have conceded in six of their seven league games, and Penders has never started a Premier League match.

Chelsea scoring is the easier half. They’ve found the net in six of seven, and Tottenham have conceded 10 times in seven league outings.

It’s priced at $3.30, and that’s my bet on the best legal sports betting sites in New Zealand this weekend.
