Czech Republic vs England Prediction: Betting Tips & Odds

Two beaten teams meet at the Fortuna Arena in Prague at 7:45am on Wednesday NZT, with the Czech Republic and England both still on zero points in UEFA Nations League Group A3.

England let a lead slip in a 3-2 loss to Spain at Wembley on Saturday. The Czechs went down 2-1 to Croatia at home the same night, and they’re bottom only because they’ve scored one fewer goal.

For this Czech Republic vs England preview, I’ve gone through both defeats and the absentee lists, and there’s a lot to get through on the Czech side.

My top pick is a result-and-goals double at $2.30, and you’ll find it on most legal betting sites in New Zealand.

Czech Republic

Saturday was grim for the Czechs.

Croatia outshot them 16-5, and Luka Modric opened the scoring two minutes after half-time at the age of 41. Adam Hlozek set up an equaliser soon after, but Marco Pasalic headed in an Ivan Perisic cross with around a quarter of an hour left to win it.

Their problem is up front. Patrik Schick retired from international football after the World Cup, and I don’t see an obvious replacement in this squad.

I’m keen on Pavel Sulc, but he’s going to need help. The Lyon playmaker is the one Czech player I’d trust to create a chance against England, and he should play off Hlozek again.

Their World Cup was one to forget as well. A draw with South Africa was all they managed from three group games, and they finished bottom.

Team News: Zima, Jurasek, Rynes, Vlcek, Provod, Visinsky and Chory withdrew before the Croatia game. Soucek is out injured, and Krejci missed Saturday with a calf problem. Karabec is a doubt after coming off injured against Croatia.

Predicted Lineup: Hornicek; Coufal, Hranac, Chaloupek, Slama; Sadilek, Cerv; Ambros, Sulc, Radosta; Hlozek.

England

England are six games now without a clean sheet.

That’s 13 goals conceded, and the errors on Saturday were ugly. Marc Guehi was caught in possession for Lamine Yamal’s opener inside two minutes, and Nico O’Reilly gave the ball away for Alex Baena’s equaliser on the hour.

I tipped Spain to win with both teams scoring at $5.00 for that one, so England’s back line didn’t surprise me.

Going forward, they looked sharp. Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane scored four minutes apart before the break, and Kane smashed a penalty off the underside of the bar early in the second half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold didn’t get off the bench against Spain. I’d expect him in at right-back here, where the Czechs are more likely to let him have the ball.

Team News: Rice, Livramento, Mainoo, Palmer and Rashford withdrew before the Spain game. Hall was an unused substitute against Spain.

• England’s last meeting with the Czechs ended 1-0 at Euro 2020.
• Only two of the Czechs’ eight matches in 2026 have ended in wins.
• England have scored in each of their last six matches.

England win this, and it shouldn’t be close.

They won’t face a weaker side in this group. Schick is gone, and seven withdrawals have left the Czechs patching up a back four that hasn’t played much together.

They say a Prague crowd is worth a goal. I’m not so sure this time, not after the Czechs managed two shots on target against Croatia.

History gives me a little pause. The Czechs beat England 2-1 in Prague in October 2019, with Zdenek Ondrasek scoring the winner late on.

My gut says 3-1 England. A 2-0 wouldn’t surprise me either, but I can’t see a cagey night given how loose England have been at the back.

England to Win and Over 2.5 Goals @ $2.30

Five of England’s last six matches have produced at least three goals inside 90 minutes.

The exception was the quarter-final against Norway, which was 1-1 after 90 minutes before Jude Bellingham won it early in extra time.

Their 2-1 win over DR Congo in the round of 32 is the bare minimum needed here, and I think England have plenty for a Czech defence missing most of its regulars.

I’m less sure the Czechs score, which is why I’ve avoided BTTS. A 3-0 pays out just the same.
