Fulham vs Manchester United Prediction: Betting Tips & Odds

Fulham welcome Manchester United to Craven Cottage on Monday morning New Zealand time, with both clubs desperate for a Premier League result before the international break.

Fulham are 18th with one point. United are 13th on four after losing the derby to a 10-man Manchester City. In this Fulham vs Manchester United preview, I dig into both sides’ form and their midweek cup commitments.

Fulham

Fulham look better than their table position.

I know how that sounds for a side with one point, but their last two outings give me reason to think a turn is close. They were the better team for long stretches of the 0-0 draw at Anfield on the weekend, with Jeremy Jacquet clearing a Gonzalo Garcia shot off the line. Then recently they got past West Ham 3-2 in the Carabao Cup, with Oscar Bobb coming off the bench to settle it with a slick solo finish.

Craven Cottage has been their problem. They led Crystal Palace twice before losing 3-2 and getting booed off, and Chelsea beat them by the same scoreline there in their opener.

Josh King is the one I’d want on my side. He opened the scoring against Palace and started the move for their second goal.

Team News: Cairney is out. Sessegnon is a doubt.

Manchester United

United are a mess right now.

Sunday’s derby was the low point. Phil Foden was sent off in the 23rd minute, yet United managed only three shots on target and lost to Erling Haaland’s 60th-minute goal after a lengthy VAR check. Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo both struck the woodwork, but they never looked like a team with an extra man.

Away from Old Trafford it’s been worse. They lost 2-0 at Hull on the opening weekend and let two leads slip at Everton, where Benjamin Sesko’s 88th-minute header was cancelled out by Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

Bruno Fernandes is the one I’d fear most, with three goals already this season.

At the time of writing, United still have Brighton at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night UK time. It’s their third game in six days after the 4-0 Champions League win over Sabah FK and the derby. Michael Carrick is expected to rotate, but I’d be surprised if it doesn’t leave some tired legs heading to London.

Team News: De Ligt, Ugarte, Amad, Heaton, and Baleba are out. Shaw is a doubt.

Predicted Lineup: Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Dorgu; Tielemans, Mainoo; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Rashford; Sesko.

I can’t back United at these prices.

A $1.95 favourite that hasn’t won away this season, with a cup tie to get through midweek, isn’t one I want near my slip. Fulham have had an extra day to recover, and they’ve looked a lot tighter since that Palace defeat.

That said, I’m not brave enough to tip Fulham outright. United have better players, and Alvaro Arbeloa is still waiting on his first league win in charge.

A draw feels right to me. I’ve pencilled in 2-2, mostly because I don’t trust either back four to go 90 minutes without a mistake.

I could easily be wrong about United’s legs, mind you. If Carrick rests most of his first-choice side against Brighton, they’ll turn up at the Cottage fresher than I’m expecting.

Fulham Double Chance and Both Teams to Score @ $2.90

Goals at both ends look likely.

Fulham have scored in both home league games, and they had 25 shots against Palace. United haven’t kept a league clean sheet yet.

My worry is the away attack. United drew a blank at Hull and against City, so I’m relying on Fernandes and Sesko to find a way through.

February’s meeting at Old Trafford is another reason I’m happy with this bet. Fulham were 2-0 down with five minutes left, yet Raul Jimenez scored from the spot and Kevin curled in an equaliser before Sesko snatched it for United in stoppage time. That was a Fulham side under different management, but I’d back this group to give United a similar headache at home.
