I’m backing Canada here without too much hesitation. They’re co-hosts playing their opener on home soil in front of a sold-out BMO Field. Alphonso Davies is confirmed out with a hamstring injury, which is a blow, but Jonathan David and Tajon Buchanan give them enough going forward.

Canada beat Uzbekistan 2-0 on June 1 and drew 1-1 with Ireland on June 5 - not spectacular, but the defensive shape looked settled across both games. Bosnia came through playoff penalty shootouts against Wales and Italy, and they’ve got 40-year-old Edin Dzeko still leading the line. 

I respect what they’ve done to get here, but most betting apps price Bosnia at $4.40+ and I don’t see them handling a Toronto crowd desperate for a result.

USA vs Paraguay

Paraguay are the most underrated defensive side at this tournament. Under Gustavo Alfaro, they conceded just 10 goals across 18 CONMEBOL qualifiers - and that includes games against Argentina and Brazil.

I can see the USA dominating possession at SoFi Stadium, but converting against a deep, disciplined block is a different proposition to their recent friendlies. The USA beat Senegal 3-2 on May 31 and lost 2-1 to Germany on June 6, so there are goals in them, but neither opponent dropped deep the way Paraguay will. 

If you’re checking football betting sites for a safer angle on this game, under 2.5 is where I’d go. There’s a real chance this ends 1-0 or 0-0.
