Roland Garros Expert Tips and Best Bets | June 1

The second week of the French Open kicks off on Monday, with incredibly nearly half of the 16 men and women who will take to the court for a fourth round match doing so unseeded. It’s been a tournament of upsets; will that trend continue or will the favourites begin to flex their muscles as we head deeper into the event? Take a look at our best bets below to find out what we think.

Men’s French Open – Matteo Berrettini vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo: Berrettini to win | $1.63 with Zoccer

What a match this shapes up as, and certainly not one that anyone expected us to be seeing in Round 4. Berrettini has reached this stage for the first time since 2021, the 30-year-old beating another Argentinian in an incredible five-hour five-setter in the third round after a couple of easier wins to start the tournament. But believe it or not, despite that he will have the fresher legs; Juan Manuel Cerundolo required five sets – four of which went to tiebreaks – and just under six hours to win his way through. The Argentinian, of course, made headlines in Round 2 when he beat world number one Jannik Sinner in a brilliant display, but that two was an arduous five-setter and he must be feeling the pinch. This could be a great match, but Cerundolo’s dream run might be destined to come to an end.

Men’s French Open – Frances Tiafoe vs Matteo Arnaldi: Tiafoe to win | $1.84 with BetandPlay

Neither of these two men have had it easy so far this tournament. 19th seed Frances Tiafoe has required five sets to win each of his last two matches and four in the first round, while Arnaldi played two long four-setters to start before going all the way to a fifth set tiebreak against German Raphael Collignon last round. The betting sites have this pegged as a near-even matchup, but while on form that makes sense, Tiafoe is the superior player, as his world ranking suggests. This is good value for him to knock off somebody who has never made it past this stage of a Grand Slam.

Women’s French Open – Mirra Andreeva vs Sorana Cirstea: Andreeva to win | $2.05 with Betista

In contrast to the above match, both Andreeva and Cirstea have been dominant in their run to the fourth round, neither of them yet losing a set at the tournament. Cirstea has been super impressive at the ripe old age of 36, but she has made a habit of getting this far in Grand Slams and then losing; in 66 attempts, she’s passed the fourth round just twice. Andreeva, meanwhile, is a budding young star who in just three attempts has already made the quarter-finals and the semi-finals at Roland Garros. Impressive as Cirstea’s tournament has been, she typically struggles against elite players, and particularly on clay that’s exactly what Andreeva is.
