Roland Garros Expert Tips and Best Bets | June 3
The French Open quarterfinals continue on Wednesday, with the final two men and women set to book themselves a spot in the semis across four big matches. Take a look at our best bets of the day below.
Men’s French Open – Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Flavio Cobolli: Cobolli to win | $1.83 with Zoccer
Though Auger-Aliassime is the higher ranked player in this matchup, the market has gradually shifted towards Cobolli to the point where he is now favourites with most betting sites. The young Italian has been terrific throughout the tournament, dropping just a single set en route to the quarters, and while he has only beaten a top-10 player three times in his life, those victories have all been in the last year and all on clay. The 24-year-old is on the up, and meets his more experienced opponent on probably his most vulnerable surface. In six previous French Open appearances, Auger-Aliassime has lost in the first round and he went perilously close to doing so again this year. On any other surface I’d be backing the Canadian, but Cobolli has looked right at home at Roland Garros this year and can advance through to his first ever Grand Slam semi-final with a win.
Women’s French Open – Aryna Sabalenka vs Diana Shnaider: Sabalenka to win in straight sets | $1.40 with Betista
There isn’t a huge amount of value on offer here with most betting apps offering around $1.40 for the world number one to win in straight sets, but given how she’s playing even that seems generous. Sabalenka is yet to drop a set this tournament, and having just knocked off the in-form Osaka she is the comfortable favourite to win her first ever French Open. Shnaider is no easybeat; she too hadn’t lost a set until her fourth round clash with Madison Keys and has generally looked very good, but against the best player in the world in scintillating form, even winning a set might be a stretch.
Men’s French Open – Matteo Berrettini vs Matteo Arnaldi: Berrettini -1.5 sets | $1.83 with BetandPlay
This is an all-Italian matchup that nobody would have expected, with the two unseeded Matteo’s advancing through to the final eight against all odds to set up this clash. Berrettini has wound back the clock with a fantastic tournament, and though he’s not had to play anyone seeded higher than 22, he’s only been to five sets once and has looked very impressive throughout. Arnaldi has also escaped the high seeds, his best win coming against 19th ranked Frances Tiafoe last round. But he has had a gruelling tournament to date, playing at least four sets in every match and his last two going deep into the fifth. This is the furthest he’s ever advanced into a Grand Slam, and that physical toll might catch up with him in this one.
