Grigor Dmitrov vs Alexei Popyrin Expert Tips and Best Bets
The US Open is officially underway, with the eyes of the tennis world now firmly set on New York for the final Grand Slam of the year. Day Two marks another day of Round One matches, and with such a big slate there is plenty of value to be found. Our picks focus on a few lower-tier matches in which there looks to be some very good value on offer, so take a look below for our three best bets of the day’s action.
Grigor Dmitrov vs Alexei Popyrin: Popyrin to win | $2.65 with Zoccer
Grigor Dmitrov has been plagued by plenty of physical ailments throughout the course of his career, and unfortunately at the ripe old age of 35, things aren’t getting any easier. The Bulgarian has been forced to retire during a match in an incredible five consecutive Grand Slams; they haven’t always been early exits and he managed to make it to the Round of 16 at Wimbledon just a couple of months ago, but he’s played just two tournaments and lost to players ranked in the 50s early on in both of them since. Alexei Popyrin is a far less accomplished player, but the US Open is easily the Grand Slam at which he’s performed best throughout his career, having won at least one match in five of six appearances and making the third round or better three of those times. This match could go either way, but at nearly $3 with some betting sites against an injury-plagued Dmitrov, Popyrin looks like good value her.
Valentin Vacherot vs Aleksander Kovacevic: Vacherot to win | $1.82 with Betista
Odds of close to even money on the betting apps looks almost too good to be true for Vacherot here. After years of toil, the man from Monaco has rapidly climbed up the world rankings in recent years with a series of impressive results, to the point where he is now the 22-seed at the US Open. He’s only appeared in the main draw of a Grand Slam a handful of times and it was only at this year’s Australian Open that he first won a match, but having backed that up with another at the French Open it won’t likely be long before he makes a decent run at a big tournament. Kovacevic has been competing in Grand Slams for longer than Vacherot, but his record at them is nothing to write home about; in nine appearances, he has won just a solitary match, that coming at the Australian Open in 2024. A guy who consistently loses in the first round at Grand Slams simply shouldn’t be even money against a seeded player, so Vacherot is great value here.
Diane Parry vs Viktorija Golubic: Parry to win | $1.72 with BetandPlay
Diane Parry heads into the US Open with her tail up after winning a tournament in Mexico just last week, a win which took her world ranking to a career high 31. The 23-year-old has shown a dramatic improvement in the past 12 months, making the third round in three of her last four Grand Slams and winning at least one match in each of those. Golubic, meanwhile, has been toiling away for over a decade and while she’s a regular at Grand Slams, she rarely does much damage once there. In fact, last year was her eighth performance at Flushing Meadows, and her second round exit marked her best ever result there; she’d never previously won a match. Parry is clearly on the ascent and is a better player than Golubic both in general and particularly at the US Open, and should be winning this match.
James is a sports writer, editor and published author from Melbourne, Australia. He has close to a decade of experience writing about sports and triple that as an ardent follower of everything from AFL and cricket to NBA and surfing, and has also published his own sports book titled Sport’s Greatest Statistical Anomalies. If he’s not watching or playing sport, you’ll find James playing his guitars (when the house is empty, of course), trying out a new stout, or having a read.
