Manchester United vs Man City Prediction: Betting Tips & Odds

Manchester United vs Man City Prediction
Manchester United and Manchester City meet at Old Trafford on Monday morning New Zealand time in the fourth round of the 2026/27 Premier League season. City top the table with a perfect nine points from nine. United are 11th on four, and I’m not sure anyone can explain their form so far.
In this Manchester United vs Manchester City preview, I look at form, team news and the dynamics heading into the derby.
I’ve got a BTTS angle at a decent price for those eager to bet on football this week.
Manchester United vs Manchester City Analysis
Manchester United
I don’t know what to expect from United in this match. Lost at Hull, outstanding for 60 minutes against Ipswich before running away with a 5-2 win, then let a late lead slip at Everton to draw 2-2.
Bruno Fernandes has three Premier League goals already. He scored a hat-trick against Ipswich including a penalty and was named United’s Player of the Month for August. Bryan Mbeumo has scored in consecutive games and looks settled as the first-choice right-sided attacker under Carrick.
Benjamin Sesko headed United in front with two minutes left at Everton, only for Ainsley Maitland-Niles to equalise in the sixth minute of stoppage time. That result will sting heading into a derby.
United also play Sabah in the Champions League on Thursday, three days before this. Carrick will need to manage minutes carefully.
Team News: Ugarte is out long-term with a cruciate injury. Baleba has an ankle problem and is expected back around September 17. Amad could return from the bench. De Ligt is a doubt.
Predicted Lineup: Lammens; Mazraoui, Maguire, Yoro, Shaw; Tielemans, Mainoo; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Rashford; Sesko.
Manchester City
Nine points from nine, yet City haven’t looked comfortable in any of those wins. I find that interesting.
Bournemouth led at the Etihad until the 84th minute before Guehi and Gvardiol rescued a 2-1 win. Palace was more convincing - Rayan Cherki scored twice and Erling Haaland bagged a brace in a 4-1 thumping. Then Coventry came to the Etihad and City ground out a 1-0 victory via another Haaland header.
Haaland has three goals in three games. Cherki looks like one of the signings of the summer with two goals and four assists. But Enzo Maresca is still figuring out his best side, and there are moments without the ball where City look far less structured than they did under Guardiola.
Rodri leaving for Barcelona was massive. Elliot Anderson has filled that defensive midfield role and been solid, but he’s not the same player. And City played away to Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday, which adds a fatigue factor.
Team News: Doku has been sidelined since the Community Shield with a calf injury and faces a late fitness test. O’Reilly withdrew before the Coventry match with a back problem but is expected to be available. Nunes is fully fit.
Predicted Lineup: Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias, Guehi, Gvardiol; Anderson, O’Reilly; Semenyo, Foden, Cherki; Haaland.
Manchester United vs Manchester City Stats and Trends
- United won the last meeting 2-0 at Old Trafford in January, with Mbeumo and Dorgu scoring in Carrick’s first match as manager.
- City have won all three Premier League games this season without leading at half-time in two of them.
- Both teams scored in United’s last two league matches.
- Haaland has scored in all three of City’s league fixtures.
- Fernandes has three goals in three Premier League appearances this season.
Manchester United vs Manchester City Prediction
I’m leaning City but there’s no way I’m confident.
United at Old Trafford in a derby is a different proposition to United at Hull. Carrick got a 2-0 win in his first game in charge against this lot in January, and the crowd was a huge part of that. Fernandes is in blistering form and I wouldn’t rule out a repeat.
But City’s attacking quality is hard to argue with. Haaland will get chances and Cherki will create them. I’m going City 2-1.
If you’re following the derby through live betting sites this weekend, the in-play odds could shift quickly given how unpredictable both sides have been.

Manchester United vs Manchester City - The Ultimate Bet
United have scored in every home game this season - five against Ipswich alone. Carrick has set his team up to attack at Old Trafford and the derby won’t change that.
City have conceded in two of their three league games, and United’s front line is sharper than Bournemouth or Palace. Fernandes and Mbeumo will cause problems.
At $1.55 on the best legal betting sites available in New Zealand, it’s not a huge price, but I’m confident enough to back it.
