Tottenham vs Everton Prediction: Betting Tips & Odds

Tottenham and Everton meet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday morning New Zealand time, with the hosts looking about as desperate as a team can look after spending over £300 million and failing to score a single Premier League goal.

De Zerbi’s rebuild is not going to plan. Three games in and Spurs have one point, zero goals, and a growing sense that the money hasn’t translated into anything yet.

In this Tottenham vs Everton preview, I’m picking over the form from both sides and looking at a goals-market angle for those tracking football betting odds this week.

Tottenham

Zero league goals from three matches. That’s the big number at Tottenham currently.

Brentford took them apart 3-0 on opening day. Newcastle came to north London and won 2-0 through second-half goals from Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa. I thought the 0-0 at Forest was progress of a sort - a first point - but hardly convincing.

I do think the squad is better than the results suggest. Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali cost a combined £185 million in midfield and they’ll click eventually. Marmoush looked dangerous in flashes against Newcastle.

But right now this is a team still learning how to play together. De Zerbi’s system needs time, and the schedule hasn’t given him that luxury.

Team News: Maddison is expected back in the squad after a shoulder injury. Simons is out long-term with an ACL injury. Odobert and Kulusevski are also sidelined. Savio is available.

Predicted Lineup: Kinsky; Porro, van Hecke, van de Ven, Robertson; Fernandes, Tonali; Savio, Gray, Marmoush; Solanke.

Everton

Five points from three games and unbeaten. I’m impressed with what Moyes has put together so far. I didn’t see this coming.

Dewsbury-Hall and Barry scored in a comfortable 2-0 over Crystal Palace on opening day. Tarkowski drilled home from close range in the 90th minute to rescue a point at Bournemouth. And the Man United game was chaos - Everton twice trailed, Ainsley Maitland-Niles rifling in a 96th-minute long-range effort on his debut to salvage a 2-2 draw.

Losing Iliman Ndiaye to City for £65 million stings. He was their best player last season. But Grealish has come the other way on loan and already featured off the bench. Tyrique George - signed from Chelsea - scored against United and there’s a directness to his game that Everton haven’t had in a while. Brennan Johnson gives them another option with pace.

Team News: Norgaard arrived from Arsenal with an existing injury and is not yet available. Hackney is a doubt with an ankle issue. Grealish came off the bench against Man United and should be involved again.

Predicted Lineup: Pickford; Rohl, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Hackney, Armstrong; George, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish; Barry.

• Spurs have not scored in any of their three Premier League matches this season.
• Everton are unbeaten through three games (W1, D2) for the first time under Moyes.
• Spurs lost their opening two league games without scoring for the first time since the 1974-75 season.
• Everton have twice equalised in added time this season.
• Spurs won 1-0 the last time these two met, with Joao Palhinha’s goal securing their Premier League survival on the final day of last season.

I’m backing Everton to avoid defeat here. I can’t trust Spurs to score, let alone win.

The squad looks good on paper. I can’t argue with the recruitment. But putting a team together from scratch while trying to win Premier League games is a different problem, and De Zerbi hasn’t solved it yet.

Everton are gritty. They fought back twice against United and nicked a point at the death at Bournemouth. Tarkowski and Branthwaite are a solid centre-back pairing, and Pickford has been excellent.

I’m not saying Everton will win - $4.50 is tempting but it’s a tough ground. A low-scoring draw feels about right. If Spurs do get one, I can see Everton responding on the counter. George and Johnson have the legs for it.

Everything about Everton’s start says they won’t be pushed over here. Moyes has them compact and hard to break down, and Spurs have given no evidence they can score against anyone right now.
