Saturday Racing Tips - Te Rapa 22/08/26

The best of the Saturday racing in New Zealand comes from Te Rapa, where the card is headlined by the Group 2 Waikato Stud Foxbridge Plate.

In what is a competitive card ahead of the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips. As well as our exclusive tips we have highlighted three races which look to be the most competitive of the day. BEST BET – First Five

In the headline race of the day, we are hoping that First Five can overcome rustiness and shake off a 28-week layoff to land the spoils. Having won his last three races, with two of those being Group 1 contests, he has the form to land this. Whether a lack of racing hurts him remains to be seen.

THE DANGER – Alabama Lass

There are a few dangers, but Alabama Lass is the main headline. Another who is coming off a long break, he has placed second on three occasions in Group 1 races in Australia and has the class to compete here. His recent form is a major concern which is why we have looked elsewhere.

VALUE BET – Churchillian

Churchillian could be the value play here. A winner of two of his last three, he makes the step up to Grade 2 company for the first time and has form to find with the principles. However, conditions will be ideal, and he is race ready which could count for a lot considering the rustiness of some of his rivals. He could go close.

BEST BET – Heza Sharp One

Heza Sharp One will be the warm favourite for the third race of the day and should go well around Te Rapa once again. A third of his races have come here at this track, and he has three wins. He sets the standard.

THE DANGER – Diamond Jak

Diamond Jak could be huge threat. He simply loves it around Te Rapa having won five times and placed on a further six occasions. A winner last time out at the track, his recent form is strong, and he could land a sixth race here.

VALUE BET – Fly My Wey

The value could sit with Fly My Wey. Although without a win in six at this track, he has done the bulk of his racing at a higher level than this. His fourth at the Taumarunui Gold Cup stacks up well in this field and he could go close.

BEST BET – Sweet But Psycho

In the fourth race of the day Sweet But Psycho should be competitive. Although his last win came almost a year ago, she has been knocking on the door of late with three placed efforts in succession. She has found one too good too frequently but could avoid that fate this time around.

THE DANGER – Ziggy Khan

Ziggy Khan is one of many dangers in the field and it could be argued that she is one of the most consistent horses on the card. Three seconds in her last four races have been coupled with a win at Otaki. She gives her backers a run for their money and she should be worth a market check despite this being her first run here.

VALUE BET – Rosina

Our best value play comes from Rosina. Another hugely consistent horse, she has six places and a win from her last seven races. That win came at Taupo seven days ago, and she is clearly in great form. Whether this race will come too soon remains to be seen.
