Sunday Racing Tips - Hawera 23/08/26

The Hawera card this Sunday is headlined by several competitive handicap races across both the jumps and flat.

Ahead of this and the first race we have run our eye through the card and picked out some of our best horse racing tips.

Happy Star – 2.15

Super Flash – 5.50

Odysseus – 26.00

BEST BET – Happy Star

In race three it looks like Happy Star will be the one to beat. His third in the Grand National Hurdle is by the far best piece of form on offer. A repeat of that performance should be more than enough.

THE DANGER – Super Flash

Super Flash could be the one to take on the favourite with. Whilst his level of racing can’t compare to Happy Star, he has two seconds in his last four races so arrives in good form. He can’t be fully discounted.

VALUE BET – Odysseus

Odysseus is the most experienced in the field and although the rank outsider, he could outrun his odds. He returns to hurdles after a few goes over the bigger obstacles and that could be a positive. A slick jumper at his best he can’t be entirely ruled out.

Brilliant Deejay – 11.00

BEST BET – Breaker Bay

Whilst the fourth race on the card isn’t the strongest, Breaker Bay looks to have plenty of upside. His second on debut makes plenty of appeal and if he can build on that here, he could well land the first race of his career.

THE DANGER – Ena Sharples

Ena Sharples has had seven goes in trying to get off the mark and as of yet hasn’t quite been able to get it done. However, she does have three seconds to her name and looks competitive here. The dangers look few and far between and it wouldn’t be a shock if she were to win.

VALUE BET – Brilliant Deejay

On bare form Brilliant Deejay doesn’t particularly stand out, but a fifth and a fourth show that he could be moving in the right direction. He could compete for the places.

Quill – 6.50

Star Warrior – 14.00

BEST BET – Carignan

The seventh race on the card looks to be the hardest to call for bettors. Carignan could jump as the favourite and as the only last time out winner, he will make plenty of appeal. He’s dropped in weight for this and he should run well.

THE DANGER – Quill

Quill headlines the many dangers in this race. Although he has only tasted success once, he almost made it two when just denied at Wanganui at the start of the month. He’s had a few weeks to rest since then and should go well in the conditions. There is plenty to like.

VALUE BET – Star Warrior

Star Warrior will jump as our value play and he could run another solid race. Having made 13 starts, he is the least experienced in this field but we see that as a plus. He won his second race three starts ago and anything close to that will see him right in the mix.
